Matt Or Gloss Carbon?

  1. Right so I've just done some repairs to a piece of carbon fibre sprocket guard and trawling thru my box of paints, there lurks a tin of matt laquer.
    After a test on the repaired piece with the matt laquer. I quite like it. The gloss seems to look dated now, whereas tge matt just looks raw and purposeful, if you get what I mean.
    What's peoples views on carbon fibre finish, matt or gloss?? As now thinking of refinishing all the carbon on my 996/1098 mongrel. Do I or don't I?

  2. It depends on the rest of the bike for me. When I bought BSTs for my Desmo, I went for the gloss, as the visible carbon on the bike is gloss. If it had been a Panigale with the matt carbon, I'd have bought matt carbon wheels.

    I have to say as a general rule of thumb, I do prefer the more modern propensity for matt carbon. :yum

  3. The rest of the bike;

  5. Yeah can see where you are coming from on that.
    I need to do some repairs on the front mudguard as it's chipped to hell. So will do tgat next in matt then decide. Can always blow it over with gloss afterwards.

  6. Matt. Every time!

  7. Matt has a more industrial, purposeful look, perfect for a racing or track machine.
    Gloss is prettier, perfect for a polished and pampered bike.

  10. Matt, although I'd prefer my rear hugger was gloss for the extra stone chip protection.

  11. Gloss every time, I don't understand this primer look finish fashion trend ?
    And there's better scratch stone chip resistance.

  16. That looks good :cool:

  17. You can use ceramic clear for a tougher stone chip resistant finish.

  18. I've got gloss bst's but then any other carbon parts I buy like shock guard, exhaust heat shield, heel guards etc I go Matt.
