  1. That was the weekend i was planning on, if they cant accomodate and give me some other option i will put up a poll to vote on the best one.

  2. Glid

I too enjoy Hitch's writings, You won't learn anything new buying 'God is not great' though, better to buy 'The portable Atheist' imo .

If you haven't read any of Sam Harris, you are missing out on the master. Highly recommended is 'The end of faith'

The End of Faith: Religion, Terror, and the Future of Reason: Amazon.co.uk: Sam Harris: Books

  3. One of the members on this site was at Oxford with Hitchens.

You might also find Sam Harris and Richard Dawkins equally entertaining and thought provoking.

I am constantly stunned at the amount of drivel said in the name of religion, and worse, the number of people killed in the name of the various versions of "god".

  4. Dawkins is also worth a read. If you can find anyone who makes a well reasoned argument for the existence of god, let me know! I have not found one yet.

  5. So far Ive been on here, had a sausage butty for breakfast and danced "Gangnam Style" just now with my 7 month old granddaughter

  6. That sounds like a really nice start to the day-good on you.

  7. That'll be me. Chris was at a different college (Balliol) from mine and a year older, but we studied the same subjects (PPE) and were like-minded. I remember going to political meetings with him.

I agree with Chris on many things, but I did not accept his bitterly critical views of Bill Clinton. I knew Bill Clinton quite well, being in the same college (University College) in the same year, and am proud to have been a strong supporter of his.

  8. While Dawkins is scientific and highly structured, Hitchens is impassioned and polemical. Taken together the case they make is unanswerable. Opponents and religionists are reduced to generalised sneering, because they don't have any real valid arguments.

  9. Sorted and recorded two sets ready for the Bairn on New Years Eve and another two for her next gig in January.......

I can't wait to carry the lights and PA gear!:frown:

  10. Just got back from soft play with my 4yr old daughter.

Outcome - I am more tired than she is. £20 quid lighter, and starving.

However, watching pikey mums argueing! Priceless.

  11. Bank holidays are a no for us! That's when we're usually at the castle doing archery, although this year the end of May has been pre booked by mother in law for a bash for their 50th wedding anniversary and as I like my testimonials I can't miss that!

  12. Bought a car and driven up to sunny Swadlincote. Nowt special really. Off to watch the villa lose again tomorrow which will be funny as I don't really like football, just going for the beer and craic.

  13. You sound like the royals, anyone for croquet!lol.

  14. As i said in earlier post , i wont find out until mid jan, on what dates are avaliable, most Bank Holidays were already booked anyway.

  15. Mostly today I've been working in London. Grrrrrr.......

  16. Same here, Albermarle St, but the scenery's pretty damn good in Mayfair!

  17. Well, that's just as well on current form!

  18. I've just made a small office staff of gingerbread men (about 28).

That was the easy bit. Now I've got to decorate them, which requires imagination and technique, neither of which I possess. I also don't have the requisite tools, but I think I'm going to improvise sawn-off rawl plugs for the icing sugar bags.

There could be a photo later.

  19. visiting family again, same as yesterday, and the day before, and the day before that day .....

    Not visiting anyone tomorrow
