A couple of garage mechanics i used to know years ago, had a passion for speed boats. They built a boat with a 6 ltr V8 chevy engine, with straight through pipes. If anyone can remember the james bond film Live and Let Die when the bad guys nicked the police boat, the 8 pipes were straight up from the engine, WOW what a sound when they floored it, a spine tingling deep roar.
The lancia delta s4 Type that in you tube and watch some of the old hill climb videos. Gets my heart going every time. Watch the clips And then imagine the feeling of blasting about in one of those. First car on my lottery buying list.
English Electric Lightning when it's just raised its undercarriage and is in a vertical climb! Memories from my childhood at RAF Coltishall open days! The ground shook and you could feel it reverberating in your chest!
Jets just don't do it for me - just white noise. a top fuel dragster is still the loudest thing I've ever heard, the sound can blur your vision from 100 feet. What's truly impressive is you can feel the heat of a pass at that distance as well at the end of year events....
My Dad's Norton 16h does it for me every time. So much emotion tied up in it. If not the the Vulcan comes very close
I was just going to write about the Lightning at Henlow open days....Commentator would tell you where it was coming from, but you wouldn't hear it till it was overhead...and then all you saw was the afterburners while the ground shook under your feet....unbelievable...And a Shackleton dropping dummies out on chutes from abt 400 feet was a close second!
No but will try next time we are out. He has an Ariel VB as well so two large side valve singles charging along sound great.
