What To Wear For A Quick Spin

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by RC1, Oct 6, 2017.

  1. i dont always want to clamber into my stiff new one piecer so what do i do. when i used to commute 6 miles from east london to the city my outfit consisted of un-matching leathers trousers and a leather jacket. sounds worse than it looked. the trousers held up by oxford braces.

i now have presentable spidi winter/rain jacket which i wouldnt mind wearing. question is, what do i wear on the legs:

    - textiles
    - leathers
    - jeans

it should be assumed that i will be riding in the dry only but not when temps are low single digits. i dont want to look too touring so im not into the textiles so much. the leathers may work but i remember the braces were a bit pants. jeans will clearly look great but will they protect me?

  2. I just wear draggin jeans and alpinestar ankle boots on the 1098R for little pootles out :innocent: along with a textile jacket with light armour.

  3. Having highsided and breaking my arm "just nipping the video back" to the village store (yes kids, that was a thing) I always and only wear leather.

(Getting some armoured jeans for Christmas as always wearing leather is a PITA).

  4. Ideally Leathers but, Jeans and Jacket with boots as a minimum.

Sh1t happens when you least expect it.

  5. Same for me. Invested in a Keis heated body warmer, well worth it :upyeah:

  6. Short trips in 3 miles or less is jeans ,alpine star Street boots, leather jacket and gloves. Any other ride is full leathers either suit or 2 peice.

  7. Jeans, boots, gloves and textile or leather jacket.

Or, I'm off to BMW tomorrow to try a one-peice textile that goes over your normal clothes so I can start commuting (if to fits)

  8. Ether textile or leather jacket depending on how warm it is, Kevlar jeans with armoured shorts below, Very comfortable and hassle free to take on and off, Always wear my alpinestar boots no matter, Use textile trousers if out for the day.

  9. Most comfy in RST Kevlar jeans (sans armour), leather jacket and Alpinestars boots and gloves. Can't actually get my knee down so no worry there and other than wishing my jeans were a bit cooler (in both Fonz and Michael Fish senses) it's the gear I'm comfiest in and ride best in.

I'm thinking of getting some Pony high-tops, Arrow stretch jeans and a paddock jacket. Ideally an Arai Giga to complete the look.

  10. ok so im heading the jeans route then... which ones are the most flattering (think flat arse and chicken legs) and do i need to wear shorter than normal boots? i expect my normal sidi vortice's would make me look like a tool esp with jeans tucked in?

  11. you can get boots that look like normal boots these days, maybe take a ride to a local J&S, they seem to have quite a variety :)

  15. Either leather or summer riding jacket and RST kevlar jeans - always wear my boots - ankle boots if I”m going to be walking around during day or my sidi’s if sitting about.
Leathers if riding just for the ride

  16. Don't be daft, I've got a Pierre Cardin jumper on under the paddock jacket.

  17. I’ve been through a few pairs of Jeans, favour roadskinz as full Kevlar lining but most importantly for me look like normal Selvedge dark denims.
Coupled with a set of Spada Pilgrim boots and you’ve protection and look half ok walking around when off the bike.
Though for a spirited ride I go full power ranger.

  18. you'll be fine then

  19. I hear cold is the biggest killer.

  20. Short jaunts in warm weather I wear hood jeans with d30 armour, short bike boots, a leather jacket and short gloves. Cold or inclement weather or on longer trips I wear held 2 piece textiles with thermal liners if needed, high boots, gloves - all gore tex. I don't drive without a seatbelt and I don't ride the bike without some armour because shit happens. I've got a scar on my leg from my youth that shows what can happen if you go out without armour. I can wear my long boots with the held jeans no problem. As for flattering - I'm knocking on the door of 60. I'm pretty sure nobody is checking out my arse anyway. Held jeans are roomier than normal jeans but I don't think they look totally shit or anything. Held should use me in their advertising campaign.
