I need to get some new stuff. I'm commuting at the moment I'm thinking cordura and goretex. On the basis of in-depth research (a trip to J&S) I like the Rukka two piece, and dainese seem to do a decently understated one. Don't like bright colours or hi-viz fabric in the jacket (I have a polite vest to wear on the bike... ) any back armour must be removable (I'll keep on wearing my knox) what else is out there?
The current market leaders all use a fabric/Goretex laminate having moved on from a Goretex liner. Rukka use a 3 layer laminate and Dainese use a 2 layer laminate. I've just bought Rukka trousers but even they can't cope when the rain is so heavy you are sitting in a puddle of water. There is a fairly extensive recent post about fabric clothing so try the forum search function. Andy
I would go Laminate (not inside drop liner) and always Gore-tex. I ran a Dane suit for 7 years and not a drop of water came through. Bit short in the arm though. Now have a Revit Poseidon, very good and waterproof.
I'll go laminate next time too. Got Dainese Carve Master jacket and equivalent trousers. They are very good quality and a nice fit but for long exposure to rain, especially in summer when its too warm to wear the thermal liners, the Gortex waterproof membrane is just too cold and clammy. It sticks to you and you feel like your wet through even though your not. The Carve Master doesn't have a waterproof cuff either and whichever way I wear my gloves my wrists get wet and the water starts wicking up my arms after a while. Might look at the Revit Poseidon. Not cheap but not as expensive as Rukka.

I’ve had my HG gear for years. Warm enough to ride in the winter and has always kept me dry in all but the heaviest of downpours and even then, it tends to be a tiny trickle down the neck or water up the sleeves.
Very interested in Klim stuff right now. Have GoreTex Dainese and TBH, it's pretty good but drops the ball on the waterproof bit. My jacket is a Sandstorm (3 layer, armoured shell, GoreTex drop liner and then a really nice thermal base layer that works as a jacket. Klim is hellishly expensive but the reviews and people who I know have moved from Rukka to Klim have convinced me that as a 10 year solution it's only £150 a year and that's probably what I'd spend on average replacing middling gear. Bike like Kriega luggage, over the long term it makes sense but short-term / fashion it's a big ouch.
My dad went klim. I asked him if it was worth it and in a flash he answere that it was in no way worth the price and was no better than others.

My Klim works great, been out in sleet and heavy rain and never let anything it all all. Not done hours of downpour mind
Not cheap but looks good and serves a purpose. Made by BMW or commissioned by them and available from manufacturer less expensively? (a la Ducati stuff being made by Dainese, BMW helmets being Schuberth etc).
