I've got a 2006 749 Dark, and a pretty quick one at that. I think the first owner might have mapped it after adding the full Termi system. I feel like a change after putting 20,000 more miles on it, and crave more power! I've wanted an 848 for years and have my eye on a standard 848 or an 848 Evo, but I'm worried that it won't be enough of a leap if I'm only gaining 10-15hp. Consequently I'm looking at the 1098 or 1098S but it's a stretch, and an older bike. I guess I need advice from someone who's ridden a fast 749 and an 848/Evo, to know if there's enough difference in it to be worthwhile or whether I should bite the bullet and go for a 1098, and if so, which one. I guess even a standard 1098 will be a big leap from a 749, but would I be better off with a 1098S? Cheers!
Yeah get the 1098, 848 will be little better than what you have. S or non-S doesn't matter assuming you intend to sort the suspension anyway
Try a 999S or if you can stretch to it a 999R. You'll be familiar with the ride, gain a significant step up in power and you'd be unlikely to lose money as they are appreciating in value. I have one of each and they are the best investments I've made this year!
Definitely a 1098, go for the S if funds allow. I have a 999 and a 1098. Its altogether a different animal, can’t comment on wether a 848 would suffice but any small gain in power you would soon get use to, so go full fat and go for the 1098
If you like the 848/1098 then stop fuckin' about and get al 1198:1198S They will appreciate in value and you won't run out of umph for another 20,000 miles. (Uprated main bearings in these too)
1098/1198....the more that get raced and fucked up will increase the prices of the non molested ones....i know im stating the obvious but i had to say...
