Hi, back in August I got a fixed penalty notice £60 fine & 3 points. (See thread if interested in background ... http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f16/how-do...d-awareness-course-advice-needed-please-4177/) I paid the fine online & took my license into the local police station in August 2012, but i still have not got my license back (paper & card version) ! Ive heard conflicting advice about whether its the DVLA direct i need to chase up or the station i took the license to (apparently it seems quite common that the paperwork gets lost in the disorganised stations and never makes it to the DVLA!) Is there anyway of checking my license online to see if the points have been added? Or can I order a replacement saying I've lost my license and 'hope' that the police station never processed the points properly & it comes back clean? Any advice/thoughts appreciated.
A word of caution. The DVLA have got previous for sending out licenses with half the entitlement categories deleted. I have read of people renewing the photo license and finding they are no longer allowed to tow trailers, drive 7.5 T vehicles or ride motorcycles. When they make enquiries to the DVLA they are told that it is their responsibility to prove they had the entitlement in the first place. You really need original or scanned copies of all parts of your license. Did you get a receipt for your license when you handed it in?. If not the station must have a record that you attended. Ask for copies of proof under the FOI act. The Police took custody from you so therefore it is their responsibility from there on. Make a lot of fuss and make sure you get the original or a replacement with all the correct data on. The points are the least of your worries.
I've got a receipt from police about them taking the documents & I have a colour copy of card license scanned on PC & original bike test documents. So no worry about proving my entitlement.
Always keep good copies of all your licenses, penalty notices, correspondence, etc. Saves later difficulties.
My mate Big Billy can supply you with a shiny new license with any entitlement you like on it. What name would you prefer..?
LIke most of these on a forum its hard to comment without all the information, (all though some can and do any way) i think in the first instance you need to confirm that your licence has been received at DVLA https://www.gov.uk/contact-the-dvla A variety of overt and or covert ways of asking. i guess this would be after a few words of caution. In order to go off on one at the variety of persons involved in the process, (and i would too ) make sure you havn't sent off 'an older licence' as they are issue numbered, that your address hasnt changed prior to or during the process, and read up on the circumstances of why your licence was required, for example that it hasnt been revoked. The knock on effect of this could be quite impactive, for example you are currently driving around with no licence, which means potentially no insurance..........etc etc just tread carefully,..........well to begin with anyway!
has this been signed by a lawyer as being a true copy, DVLA have not accepted photocopies in the past
Hold on, the receipt which the police give you when you hand your license to them serves as a license pro tem. So I doubt that would affect your insurance.
pete, the full context of that statement is i guess this would be after a few words of caution. hhhjesus, did you have any still live points against your licence prior to this ticket? that could have a bearing if you were unable to be dealt with by EFPN because of existing points tally? have you changed address?
