This time I’m with this SS800 that had a small crash! The bike is not mine, it belongs to a student who didn’t have knowledge or money to fix it! I felt petty for him and offered him to make something fun without charging nothing for the labour
The chassis was straight and good! I made some new support for the instrument cluster as I was making a old stile look bike

The original fuel tank is look just like a horrendous tumor! You just can’t build a cafe racer using it! So I purchased a fiber shell on the net but it just didn’t look good at all, it was to long so I shortened it a bit but nooo! It just doesn’t look nice, so phone Pepo from “xtr” and confirmed that this kind of tank won’t fit on a SS chassis! So then I decided to make my own fuel tank!
Make a fuel tank is a pain in the ass! But I just didn’t find nothing good looking in the web! So it’s just a matter of swearing/cutting our fingers and breathing dust that produce cancer, And “Vou La”!
One other ting that had to be done was lowering the rear subchassis. I wanted it with a soft bend to make the passenger seat to be a little higher up than the pilot. So I cutted and welded a little
This is gonna be a contender for "Build of the Year" in the new Forum Awards - can't wait to see the finished version
After the cutting and sanding it was time to under coating and paint of the positive mould making it soft and ready to make the real negative mould
I also wanted a low registration support so first idea was to use a part of composite honeycomb cutting out a part from the lower splitter from a race car I don’t use any longer, but I think it look to modern for a Cafe racer so I opted for aluminium as it has a more metal classic look
It has to do with Spanish traffic laws! 1. It’s obligatory to have a mudguards 2. The the wheel can’t protrude backwards more than the last solid part of the bike...... And now the chassis’s is to short to hold the registration plate long enough
At speed tyres "grow" a bit in diameter, especially when hot. I do hope there is enough clearance between the tyre and your registration plate holder. Great project, by the way - good luck with it.
This is all well and good, and I know it can get quite warm in the canaries, but please tell me you're not bollock naked whilst welding! Top work btw.
