They said it wasn’t surprisingly quiet. Probably the Euro 4 stuff. @Air Duck they don’t say the S is faster than the FE do they?
No mate, instead he spends most of the video talking about the stiff suspension. I said it's faster for two reasons 1. I needed a catchy title for this thread, 2. It IS faster... have a look at the dyno graph they showed, the 1299S is more powerful everywhere except over 11,000 RPM, therefore a given rider will be faster on the S (as he has a few more HP across the rev range):
I can see your reasoning but that’s a bit a of a stretch. Counterpoints 1. Lighter engine internals = quicker Reving. It’s a more advanced engine in general. 2. Lighter. 3. Better suspension and wheels.
OK beatch, gloves off time! 1. It's not of so much importance that the SOME of the engine internals are lighter as the HP deficit across the range is fairly large. That the HP is greater everywhere (except in the rev range where no one goes on a twin who pay for their own engines) will mean that the torque is also greater everywhere. It looks to me that they have pretty much the same camshafts in both engines looking at the curves. So if anything, it looks like a standard 1299 engine with MAYBE a few lighter engine bits. 2. OK I'll give you that, I haven't worked it out but the R being lighter and the S having more HP at most revs may balance out in the HP/Kg stakes or it may not, but yes, power to weight ratio is key. 3. Not too sure about this one, I'm pretty confident that a 1299S has pretty good enough suspension and being a bit better isn't going to set the world alight. Wheels I don't know or can't remember what he said about their weight but yeah, a lighter wheel set always helps a bit everywhere. I should have written "more powerful than" instead of "faster than" in the title but didn't want it being too long!
More power, same weight and chassis (ball park) same gearing the S will be faster flat out. The FE will just get to it’s faster speed quicker
I take it the guy is some kind of journo, so why didn’t he soften the bike after the first session?! Wonder if Capt Plod will go after him for wheelies and crossing the white line....
Quite agree, I did a track day there at the end of September, it was freakin desperate! (although they did let me on with open pipes, but only the smaller diameter ones)
But the FE looks hideous, so that must make it slower surely? The only decent thing on the FE is the exhaust, and even that's only because it looks wsbk Sorry, but the paint job is awful
Totally agree with ET they look alot better in the flesh. Pictures don't do it just and hopefully the same applies to the new v4 when we see it for the first time.
I Agree the FE is Not Nice the best thing like you said is the exhaust because of WSB Again seen it in the flesh horrible colour scheme just GROSS Just in your face like a power ranger
That still kinda sounds like the comment 'she's got a lovely personality' It's not a bad looking bike, it can't be because it's a panigale and I love the look of them, but I'm sorry, the colour scheme is just awful looking to me and such a missed opportunity it's almost criminal. Still, we all like different things, and I can't afford it anyway
