    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  2. We need one for the 1299 SL.

  3. Bang for buck though! :upyeah:

  4. Impressed with how quick the bike was compared with the mega horsepower cars.

    Seriously quick impressive

  5. They would murder the bike on a track though.

  6. Fourteen years ago, you needed something like a Radical to stay with or beat Ducati's top-of-the-line Superbike, certainly on the tighter tracks.

I suspect since then that technology has moved the balance more in favour of hypercars.

  7. Pah, they should have used a Multistrada DVT, apparently they're rapid :)

  8. I was at Almeria a few weeks back and Aston Martin were having a shakedown with their super duper, yet to be released DB11. What a weapon!

The quickest lad with us managed a 1'.43" on his S1000RR. Which is bloody quick btw. I then timed this DB11 whilst having a nice cold one at the café after we'd finished...... 1'.35" for 3 consecutive laps. I shit you not.

  9. Well there you have it, on a long air strip an 1199SL maxes out at 192 MPH - that I can believe.

That 918, even though it's the slowest that's the one I'd take, more fun where it matters.

  10. Bikes just can't compete with powerful cars as the amount of mechanical grip they have is huge compared to bikes, they have double the amount of tyre contact patch, those contact patches are much wider, and they can drift/slide much further without crashing.

  11. Cars can brake much later too and carry more corner speed.

  12. Indeed, for over a year now I've been 'studying' Silverstone in as much detail as my bolt-on electronics (timers+location+cameras) and brain will allow as well as studying Marc Marquez's fast laps there.

This year Marc Marquez set the fastest ever two wheeled lap around Silverstone and I saved the lap data. When you compare, side by side, exact position to exact position, of Lewis Hamilton against Marc Marquez the difference is astounding, almost unbelievable.

The car is still accelerating when the bike is at maximum brake force, the braking zone is tiny for the cars, the corner speeds are so far in excess of the bikes, and they are on the gas and accelerating hard whilst the bike is still dealing with the corner exit.

2017 Marc Marquez Silverstone qualifying motorcycle lap record: 1.59.941
    (first ever 2-wheeled sub-2min lap)

2017 Lewis Hamilton Silverstone qualifying lap: 1.26.000

    34 seconds quicker

    Incredible really.

  13. So in man math, Lewis Hamilton is getting double the advantage having four wheels?

Sooooooo, that means if you doubled the results it would be:

2017 Marc Marquez Silverstone qualifying motorcycle lap record: 1.59.941
    (first ever 2-wheeled sub-2min lap)

2017 Lewis Hamilton Silverstone qualifying lap: 2.52.000

    52 seconds slower, useless :)

  14. Different layout. They don’t get that slow lead on to hanger straight (think it’s that straight, not the other). On a bike, you take that in second gear, it’s almost a hairpin. Where as cut that corner ;) and it’s thried and driving.

It’s not er seconds tho. Lol

What is Silverstone in a ‘regular’ supercar?

  15. That's a bit misleading mate. Yes the F1 cars cut Chapel corner (which of course does significantly increase their speed onto Hangar Straight) but cutting one corner on a 5.9Km lap? It's missing the point a bit IMO.

Plus Chapel is taken in excess of 70MPH on my bike which is well underpowered compared to modern superbikes let alone GP bikes, and I wouldn't describe Chapel as "almost a hairpin" at all TBH.

  16. I think that particular Panigale had a DVT engine shoe horned in there mate, and it nearly bust the chassis, is what I hear ?? :p

  18. "and here comes Bradders just about to negotiate Chapel"

  20. I kind of agree, but not just for outright performance, the 1199's launch was not the best with a couple of tenths lost to wheelies, so it may have been possible for the 1299 to get away quicker but above 150-160, those particular cars would be gone. There are faster launch bikes also, like the H2 R, that would give them a good run to, but come track time, there are no bikes that can live with either of them sadly, but I still maintain, that bang for buck, nothing beats a bike !! :upyeah:
