I think its the carbon brushes for the motor. I've whipped them out and ordered a new set for £7 and should be here tomorrow. Wifey wanted me to just be to just buy a new machine for £300. My man maths says if i fix for £7 I get £293 left for bike bits!
Oh, if its just the brushes or a belt etc, then defo a repair, but anything CCT board related....Throw the bugger away. Ours went bust a couple of years ago, was the board, £320 quote for new controller board. Took to tip, got new, most things just not worth it now. It's not worth spending big bucks getting a higher end brand either, last time out, we bought a Maytag washing machine, at something like £900, still only lasted same time as most others before things started going wrong with it, and the parts were even dearer, so that went to the tip as well. A friend once told me who worked for Bosch at the time, if you really want long long lasting appliances, get Miele, but then who wants the same shit in their kitchen for 20 years+. Buy middle of the road, then chuck em away I reckon
Yep, house rule is I get one go at fixing if it's not an expensive part. If it's fixed, happy days, if not, off to the tip and Bright house.
We bought a Miele vacuum cleaner years ago and it still works good as new. It was expensive. Always have cheaper ones around that don't last as long and replace as needed. Same difference. Washing machines are a gamble. First one we had lasted 20 years. Rusted holes in the tub so we tossed it out. Next one was particular about how clothes were put in it...didn't turn off either (some automatically turn off if unbalanced). It kept going pounding against the dryer, sounded like construction work being done in the laundry room. Third one balances itself and doesn't have a spindle-Nice! Problem is it doesn't always empty the softener dispenser. The lid is locked while in use so nothing can be added until the pause button is pushed. Next washer will be inexpensive no frills.
last time our washing machine failed, it was simply a case of re-connecting a plug that had shaken loose, where did you order the bits from? There used to be a great shop in Guildford for that sort of thing, but it's closed down. In return to the original topic - ridden to work in the murk... It's p1ssing it down now, I'm not sure there's much more moisture in the air, but at least it's going downwards...
Last time it broke down (6 months back) it lost all power. I cut off the sealed plug and stuffed on an old fashioned type and been good as gold since. Bought a slipper clutch with the money saved there. Bits come from eBay, where else. £7 and already on the way, sometimes it's pretty good.
Today i've been looking out the window. First day in nearly a fortnight i've actually had the chance to go for a ride at 17:30 for a couple of hours and not stopped raining all pissin' (down) day. I need to ride a good 300-400 mls at HM road speeds to see if i'm burning oil or not...........
you bought a slipper clutch for you washing machine? cool... the problem with "it came from eBay" is like "it came from the shops" - do you use a specific dealer or just take pot luck?
