Does anyone know what the feck I'm doing wrong (if anything) with my Tomtom device. Using it today in the car heading home, set for home, from Bristol airport to Swansea it wanted me to head up the M5 instead of the M49, which is the shorter route. When I got to the M49 M4 junction it wanted me to head east back to London any suggestions as to why it did it please. Luckily I do know my way from the bridge back to Swansea before anyone says anything @Wayne58, but the reason I was trying it, I used it in Corfu when I hired a car and the poxy thing took me up some frightening goat tracks to get to places there, but I wasn't sure if that was the standard of their roads or that the damn thing was stuck in interesting routs, even though I'd switched the bloody thing off, I think ! I've been into settings clicked on fastest route, and switched off adventure routes, I am now at a loss any suggestions please, other than buy a Garmin (again @Wayne58)
Ah.... Tomtom 410. Okay, I will not say buy a Garmin. BUT, bin that shite! What a load of rubbish they are. Twisty road setting meant farm tracks and dead ends. Trying to plot a route needed a spare day, so many button presses and sub menus. wtf? Gave up after 6 months of frustration and bought, well 'something else'. In truth, I prefer Coplilot Europe, but its a programme for Android or Iphones. Works so easy though. Satnavs (both Tomtom and Garmin) seem to get worse and harder to use. the one in my Toyota is just crazy and often just gets ignored for the bulk of a journey until close to final destination!
Absolutely great Wayne, she had a, in her words, great time thanks. New Multy on permanent hold now since becoming an OAP p.s. Know anything about bloody Tomtom 410's
When I got it I tried twisty road settings at full Monty, thinking I'd be using B roads, blinking heck didn't know we had C roads, we ended up traveling along trails (can't call them roads) that I'd have been apprehensive enough to to take my 300 EXC up. So I switched that off asap. I then tried taking some of it's decision making away from it by plotting a route ? As you say, I gave up on that one as well. But I'd still like to know why the bloody thing wanted me to head East when I was nearly at the bridge.
@broke I took a big hit and sold my 410, replaced with a basic LM model of a certain other make. its so easy to use compared to tomtom. Less button pressing before you set off etc etc. Whoever thought the 410 operating system and menu was good for bikes has clearly never been anywhere near a motorcycle. sorry got no good news about it. Like I said in an earlier post, copilot works, its easy to use and does nothing strange like sending down gravel tracks. Now if tomtom or even garmin could be overwritten, then that might be a winner. Considering the very high cost of bike specific satnavs my conclusion is they are a big ripoff. Poor functionality, poor performance, bulky (consider the size of a smart phone that can have satnav software downloaded and more flawlessly!) and despite going back to Garmin, mine and friends experience is that 3-4 years if the life span with continuous use. Be good if Samsung entered the market tbh. The major players are outdated.
I went for the Tomtom after a comparison test by a certain bike mag rated the Garmin only slightly better by the fact that once you knew what you were doing, the Garmin was more tuneable, but it wasn't that much better as to justify the vast price difference between them. And it said the Tomtom was faster than the Garmin at recalculating the route should you deviate. Also I always have it in landscape mode, but when I first used it at exactly the wrong times (don't know how it knew that) the fekin thing would go to portrait even though the damn thing is attached in landscape. I found out later that you have to lock the damn screen to stop this happening. Anyway, I've paid to much for it, and all the gubbins to give up on it yet though. I'm still trying to work out why it wanted me to go East instead of West at the M4.
Ohhh! and another gripe, I can, sometimes, stab it with my finger, gloved or ungloved, and nothing happens, a bloody gnat flies past and farts and the fekin thing works "WHY"
Can't you flog it (Not to anyone on here now you've said how shite it is) and then buy a second hand Garmin with approx the same money ?? Garmin Zumo 390LM a great unit Gareth, had no bother at all with mine mate. If you can't get along with the Thomas, stick it on the bay of fleas ??
It's possible I suppose TT, but I'm sure all I did at the airport was tap home. Is it possible to retrieve previous routes without having tapped record as I haven't got around to that advanced stage yet
Now listen here young lad, I've told you before this is God's country so don't take the urine We let you Jonny foreigners over the border to sample our wonderful roads and sublime scenery and this is how you repay our kindness , what gratitude "middle finger raised emoji" p.s. When you coming to the caff in Llandovery then ?
No idea. You've got the device, you've got the instruction manual and it's Saturday night so-there's naff all on tv..... Let us know what you find...! Perhaps look under recent destinations or similar.
You're joking right ?? @broke is glued to strictly and X-factor right about now (OK ok, sorry broke, off to pub now so will leave you in peace.)
