  1. Perfect thanks, yes I chopped my mount down when I got the new smaller plate (used the same ebay company a few times now and was no more than £10 for the current plate). the x2 upper number plate screws keep it pretty secure. May fit the lights tomorrow if I get a chance in between work ;)

  3. I tell a lie dude, its all three screws behind the number plate, cause obviously you have to get the plate mount off, but its the bottom one that holds the tail on, Soz, my mistake, then its the 4 recessed underneath.

  6. I went with the drilling method and it worked fine. The butterfly can always be screwed back on again if need be - but I find that there is an improvement to throttle response and a bit more noise in the low rev range, so it's staying off. I've done about 1500 miles since that and all is good. Thanks for the tips guys!

  7. Don't now if anyone has mentioned this, but removing it probably makes it illegal in France. I take mine to France and it is wired open (also illegal) and it doesn't bother me, but best to know.

  8. for sure it will be illegal in France, and not allowed in Germany, but explain how they will check it and find out once they stop you on the side of the road

  9. True and I wouldn't bother with it, but I'm respectable. If the gendarmes wish to be awkward of if you have been doing other silly things, it could be troublesome and it is best to know. They can take your bike away, but the chances of this happening are slim.

  10. Me too...I was experiencing a very unsmooth ride at lows revs in speed restricted areas so was searching for a more cost-effective fix than the more radical decat solution so I opted to go for the 'dremel' tool approach - thanks guys for the info and pointers, particularly Wayne58 - I managed to get the heads of the two spot-welded screws and the butterfly valve just popped off. I then removed the screw shanks easily enough from the spindle and didn't disturb the actuator and cable, all of which remain in-situ. On start up the bike was fine - no warnings - and didn't appear much louder than before but on taking it for a test ride. What a difference, the ride is much smoother now especially at low speeds and the mid-range throttle response also feels better so I think this may have solved my issue although I never had a fault warning I'm convinced this valve was preventing the smooth running of the bike; all with no real noticeable increase in noise either, just a healthy pleasant rumble :upyeah:

  11. Pleased we could help and cheaper than a Termi eh.... :D

  12. This makes a huge difference - it’s like a slight lag in the throttle has been removed at low revs. Awesome.

Toasted a drill bit, so went with the dremel. If you haven’t done this yet, get er done, no regrets.

  14. One question, if you just remove the "flap" and leave everything else in place.
What part of the bloody stupid flappy thing actually seizes, is it the flap or the mechanism, if it's the mechanism surely if you don't detach the cable, when it seizes the warning will still come up on the dash or am I wrong ?

  15. You are right I think - it’s the spring return mechanism on top of the pipe that will fail - although mine didn’t seize yet - purely a mod rather than a fix, but I am assuming it will soon as it’s in shit state and squeeking even with a world of grease applied.

I will try the small spring fix or failing that, fit a duc.EE when the time comes - if I do that i will also likely remove the whole mechanism if the eliminator works with no issues for a few hundred miles.

  16. It's the mechanism that seizes (But it seize's a lot less with flap out though), but even if it seizes, because the default is open, it would appear that as long as the cable tries to pull the flapper shut on startup, that it keeps the warning light off. I have had mine out since early 2017, bloody thing must be solid by now (I've not actually looked for ages), but no warning light of any kind on my dash. :upyeah:

  17. PS, just checked thread start date, it was April 2017, and I haven't touched or looked at the daft thing since, drilled it out over a year and 6000 miles ago, no light has ever come on, and its been serviced etc since. Just drill the bugger out !! :D
