  1. [IMG][IMG] Hi all,
I’ve joined this forum because I’m hoping for some advise.
I bought a 2011 Ducati Multistrada 1200 from a main dealer about 5 months ago which I absolutely love! The bike had done around 8000 miles and was fully serviced including belts by the Ducati main dealer.
The problem I’ve got is...... the bike made a horrible chuffing noise whilst idling and stopped running on one cylinder. I removed the lower/horizontal timing cover to find the edge of the lower belt had been worn away by what looks like one of the torx bolts that hold the top cam pulleys on jammed between the bottom of the timing case and the crank pulleys!!
On further inspection another another torx bolt fell out along with a lot of belt debris.
The belts are both intact but I think one of the top cam pulleys has slipped.
Is this likely to have caused valve/piston damage?
Looking at the pulleys in the manual shows baked bean sized slots behind the large washer and torx bolts l believe for making small cam timing adjustments?
I can only assume that there is one bolt holding the pulley on and the cam pulley has moved to the end of the slots?
I spoke to Ducati they are picking the bike up tomorrow, I assume these bolts are checked during the belt service?
Are they likely to fix the bike for free?
    Thoughts on this appreciated...

  2. If you got a Warranty, check the terms and conditions. If not wait to see what the dealer has to say first.

  3. What dealer warranty did you get?

I had similar, one month after buying it. The claimed a cam had come loose and caused the damage. Dealer didn’t quibble that one and I got a full engine rebuild. They did quibble the second though when it went wrong again but that was much later.

  4. Thanks Mervin,
the bike came with 6 months warranty or 1000 miles which ever comes first. I’ve done 2000. They changed the belts before I took the bike. Are belt changes under a separate warranty ie guaranteed for two years?
    Cheers.

  5. Sorry to hear of your troubles.
    Welcome to the forum.

  6. If its still running on one cylinder, then the other cylinder can't really have had catastrophic contact one would have thought, since they are joined by one crankshaft and its still running on one. You gave no hints of banging metallic sounds, so am guessing maybe the belt has slipped a bit. I have heard of these belt nuts coming loose before (On this forum as it happens) and I believe the belt changer should have used thread lock or similar post fitting ?? Welcome to the forum, and best of luck with dealer

  7. Greetings, sorry to hear of your troubles. 1000 miles or 6 months, 6 months sounds cool but 1000 miles seems very low, thats like 38.5 miles a week :(

  8. No metallic noises thankfully! the bike just started to run really rough so I stopped it all this happened idleing in the garage

  9. I would not run it again till dealer contact, and if they refuse any help, get some new belts and go from there I reckon ??

  10. Thanks, I definitely won’t try and start it!
I’m just hoping there is no major internal Dammage...

  11. If the belts were done by a Ducati main dealer, after 5 months, you have some come back I would say, but best to first contact supplying dealer, if no joy, contact main dealer who did belts, if still no joy, contact DUK. :upyeah:

  12. Belt change is recommended every 2 years.I don't think there is a seperate warranty for belts as far as I know.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  13. Its 5 years or 15000 miles, so there must be comeback if a main dealer did it 5 months ago surely.

  14. Thanks for the replies, I will let you all know what they say.

  15. I stand corrected, must have been thinking of other models.Doh.
