1200 Really Tempted To Make The Switch,1199 Pani To A 1200s

  1. I love my Panigale but i want to crunch some miles next year, has anyone here made the switch from a panigale?
    Im tempted by the 2015 model with the tft and dms. There are a couple of 2014's not far from me that are abit cheaper but not by much.
     
  2. I didn't do the swap you mention, but as a general rule of thumb buy the newest one you can find. Personally I prefer the DVT (I've had both), but others like the older bike. If you can afford the S then it's a good choice.
     
  3. All you will miss is the occasional insane acceleration once you get over uk on the pani, which is probably almost never.

    What you won’t miss is stiff neck, stiff back, arm pump, drenching in drizzle, riding with the need for stabilisers in the wet and any regular performance.

  4. Ive owned a 1199 and now have a Multi, not straight from one to the other a couple of bikes in between, but the multi is a brilliant bike you can have so much fun on it . I own a 999 as well at the minute, once ive been out on that for a while then go straight out on the multi its like climbing on a comfy chair its brilliant.

  5. Had an 1199s from new (one of first sold in UK) and, other than the looks, I hated it.!

    Sold it 9 weeks after I bought it......

    A Thai Ladyboy of motorcycles: stunning to look at but definitely something phuqqin' wrong.!

    Had a good few bikes in between and now on a Mut (11 plate)

    1199 = Unadulterated hate.

    1200 = Love it, love it, love it.!

    Soon as money allows i'll be on a new or newer version.
    One of the few bikes I've owned (lots of) that I actually feel I have to get out and ride no matter what the weather.
    Brings a smile to my face every time because it's such a capable all rounder that shouldn't be underestimated.

    Roll on the lottery win.!

Thanks for all the reply's, a lot of what you have said has swayed me( i can always buy another panigale down the line) there is a 2012 s carbon being sold at a dealer near me that is very tempting, I am waiting to hear what they will give me for the 1199, hopefully be good enough to trade in,if not ill have to go private and maybe get a higher mileage 2015/16 model.

  9. i did...Put 15k miles on my 1199 and loved it...
    Did the Pyrenees and the Alps on my 1199 with a ventura luggage system.....
    Decided to try something different so bought the DVT S last year new....Been to the Pico's on it and loving having a decent (well better) tank range and def more comfort.
    Took a while to judge overtakes without the 7K rpm rip your arms off acceleration but used to it now and 8.5k miles into DVT ownership am a happy bunny...

  10. You never know but perhaps one day somebody'll work out how to chip it. Having said that the DVT is plenty fast for me as it is and I love it.
     
  11. Ha, another thread by someone needing help to make up their mind. Nowt wrong with that. It's a tough decision but in the end it's down to each individual's requirements and taste.

    I looked at doing that switch and I just can't.

    I don't get this whole sit up and beg thing. Obviously many people do and are deliriously happy with three lights up front, looking like a converted ex Police bike with a massive screen to separate you from the elements. But for me, no.

    I just love sticking my shoulder into a bend. A long one, a sweeper where you can wind on the power and let the centrifugal force do its thing to bring you upright.

    I can't do that in a chair.

    Sit me in any chair I'm gone in 60 seconds. Zzzzz.

    I have two modes. Doing and sleeping.

    I ride bikes for the buzz I don't want a mobile chair.

    I tour on a Panigale, I love it. I do hundreds of miles in a day and it just makes me grin. No need for huge aluminium boxes like it's a mobile soup kitchen. Many people disagree and they must have a point but for me, it's a no.

    I couldn't lift up the cover and look at a F'uglystrada and say
    'Cor look at that'.

    In the winter every now and then I go out to my garage and lift up the cover and as I've said on this forum before,
    it's like lifting up Kylie Minogue's skirt!

    Is a Multi or a GS going to do that? I don't think so.

    Many riders love the Multi and will doubtless extol it's virtues
    and berate my opinion. That many people can't be wrong.

    But for me it's a no.

    Only you can decide for you.

  12. I think most riders would be more comfy, safer and quicker on adventure type bikes than sports bikes (on the road). The better visibility afforded by the seating position gives greater situational awareness (safety) and a greater view down the road (over hedges, cars etc). Allowing you to observe and plan better. Any small decrease in acceleration (which at legalish speeds is tiny) is easily outweighed by this.

  13. Ive just traded my 1199s for a brand new 1200 DVT myself. I found that I just wasnt taking the Pani out enough to justify it sitting there. I had it 3 years and honestly did about 2k on it in that time. Absolutely stunning bike the pani but it shouldnt be an ornament. The roads in the West of Ireland are too bumpy, dirty and wet to enjoy the pani. Loving the DVT so far. It has more than enough power. The looks are a bit marmite but it goes well, handles lovely and stops too. I got the touring kit and the heated grips are a plus as is the centrestand. I had to change out the stock windshield for am MRA vario as Im 6,-1" and the buffeting/noise was too much. I'd recommend the change (but will probably regret trading in my 1199s in future).

  15. I’m speaking to more riders moving from pani’s to KTM 1290’s.
    Thinking I’ll ride one next year to see what the noise is about.

  16. I moved from sportsbikes to super nakeds, Monster 900, Z1000s, Speed Triple etc. Then onto a Tiger 800 and a 1050 Sport. The Multistrada DVT has a “proper engine”, is nimble but with the protection of a decent sports tourer. I think it’s one of the best “real world” sports bikes you can buy. Oh, and it’s a Ducati. What more could you want?
     
  17. I wouldnt discount the S1r. Upright, comfy and defo a sportbike. Just needs an MRA touring screen to deflect windblast. Only sold mine when my wife decided she wanted to out on the back again(plus I seemed to be getting quicker and quicker on it, but didnt know where the bikes/my limit were..). Not really suitable for two up as well.
    Agree with comments about adventure bikes, Multi, KTM and GSlc are all very quick for road use. My preference is the GS. Not everyone can get away will the looks and also some wrongly assume it must be slow with only 125bhp. Just not the case as it has great torque from down low and pulls strongly to the redline. Maybe too much of difference going straight from a Panigale.
     
  18. I’ve considered it. And seriously considered getting one after this years bike show. I’ve resisted because I still love the looks and riding my Panigale. So I am upgrading from my Scrambler Classic to a new Scrambler 1100 Sport instead.

  19. Oh I don't know....lifting up the cover on the multi is like lifting up Jennifer Hawkin's skirt.......slightly longer legs!!
     
  20. So, I looked up Jennifer Hawkins and you have a point.
    I wouldn't kick her out of my garage.

    If a F'uglystrada looked like she does I'd be happy to ride either.

    Surely the new Supersport is worth considering. Or would that make it a threesome.
