1200 DVT Wireless Key Replacement

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Wraggy, Dec 14, 2017.

  1. Hi all, has anyone needed to replace their wireless key for the Multistrada? It's a very long story, but my bike went to have some damage repaired and the key has gone missing. For sure I'll get them to pay, but just wanted to know who is the best people to handle this. Ducati UK or another Ducati dealer. Also, I'm guessing they are not cheap and may take a long time to deliver.
Any experience of this you can share would be most helpful!

  2. I’m new to the Multistrada, but from what I got told on collection of mine, the wireless key was about £150-200? But that’s if you still have the red key. If you don’t have the red key it’s substantially more as the whole system will need replacing as they need the red key to code the new wireless one. Can be coded at your local dealer.

I might be wrong so if I am I’m sure someone will be along soon to give better advice!

  4. Mine went through the wash and to replace just the electrical guts and be re-programmed cost me around £120:sob:

  5. Key fob & programmed was £90, then another £25/35 quid for it too be cut (although I had a specific place mentioned to use). Taking the red-key along for the blank to match.

As I now have two fobs; I leave the newly cut for the future owner. And my broken metal key is welded to a metal washer for fuel or seat access & the fob part stays in my pocket for starting the bike.

  6. I did, but it was done under warranty. Evidently there is a newer key design (mine is a '17) that superceeds the old one. Mine quit being recognized by the bike, and it wasn't a battery issue. Dealer ordered the newer one, I kept riding the bike using the PIN, then when the fob showed up I rode it in for them to associate it with the bike. They also needed the red key for that procedure. No cost to me as the fob was old/defective but if you have a good relationship with your dealer and have/had the older fob they might replace it under a warranty claim.

  7. FYI, I called my locals dealer, (SMC in Sheffield) and they ordered me one straight away. £107.60 inc VAT. It's still a lot of money but not as much as I thought!
