Dolly And Steering Lock?

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by EJG, Dec 21, 2017.

  1. Thinking about getting a dolly as a new larger car means it’s going to very tight in the garage.

Does anyone who has one know if they are wide enough to allow the steering to be turned to put the steering lock on?

Think my insurance has a massive excess should the worst happen and it get stolen from the garage without the steering lock on.

  2. If in the awful circumstance it was stolen how would they know the steering lock was not on

  3. I’ll grant you it’s a long shot but if they find and recover you can guarantee they look closely if it means paying less.

  4. Place a steering lock in your rear boot which has been grindered in half.

  5. If you were lucky (or unlucky) enough to get it back the insurance company should be grateful the stop lock isn't smashed off.
But on a serious note, If someone were to take the bike they would pick it up, I'd argue that it were on and that they must have released the lock somehow after it was taken.
I'm not going in to my personal security but I can recommend Almax chains.... Secure the chain and bike to an immovable object not for insurance but piece of mind.
Back to the original post, not sure about the dolly. I'd look on Demon weeks and I'm sure Machine Mart do something
Another Idea would be to smash the steering lock off now :) (Probably the best idea I've ever had)

  6. Just checked the policy, not covered if the steering lock isn’t on. Just really want to know if someone has a dolly and manages to engage the steering lock.

  8. Raising the wheel on some wood sounds a much better idea than smashing the lock in advance!

  9. Would also mean a chock under the side stand I think so not sure if it'll work, lean angle would be too unstable.

  10. My garage is quite a tight fit for my car & monster - I made a 'skate' for the rear wheel - basically a single sided swingarm stand with a heavy duty castor at each corner, dead easy to use so I can put it exactly where I want it.

  11. A lazy susan type arrangement often helps. Just a few

or you could go down the abba route

  12. I use the demon tweeks one for my monster (and multistrada before it) and no I can't turn the front wheel enough to engage the steering lock.
