I always hankered after a 996 GT2. And to this day I still think it is the most aggressive looking 911, that looks like it was designed around the ducts and spoilers rather than the other way around , and them being an after thought. Many have said it looks like it is going fast even standing still, and I have to agree. I came so close to buying a high miler about 5 or 6 years ago I guess. It was in midnight blue , 70,000 odd miles, fully serviced and well looked after. Original car with no nasty history. And first owner whom had piled on the miles was a professional race driver. Seller and second owner was looking for 38 grand. I was used to driving my 996 turbo and thought the GT2 would not be too different. I was wrong. The GT2 is everything and more than has ever been written about it , and way beyond my skill set of being able to get the best from it. It was a ballistic missile , and when the rears spun up in 3rd on a dry road ( tyres still a tad too cold ) I knew it wasn't for me. However I still regret I didn't have ownership of one whilst I could still afford it , and even if I had sat and gazed at it in the garage for endless hours I would never have been bored. It's funny how good that looks now. Only six months ago when I was looking I could not stand the way the 996 looked but I'd have no issues with that at all now. The prices on the 996 GT3 are double what they were when new and the GT2 is even more stupendous. The 997 with it's updates still seems like the better vehicle to me but there's a strong argument that the 996 GT3 is the slightly more pure drivers car from what I have been reading.
I wouldn't say no to the 996 GT2 but I'll always maintain the 997 walks it in the looks stakes. I mean, just look at this! Look at it! Pure sex on wheels!
What do you mean by chin? Front aero? I think it looks amazing. But it would be a dull world if we all had the same taste and likes. That said, people who have differing tastes and likes to that of mine, are clearly mental and should seek help. That's all
I love the lairy front aero on the GT cars. I must profess to looking at some super lairy paint schemes when I was searching for one which the lady hated. I'm glad I got a 'classy' black one as I dont intend to thrash it too much but if it was a track car only then I'd definitely look at proper bad taste stuff
The aerokit was on my wish list when I was looking for my car. Gave up in the end as id be waiting forever for a turbo with one on to appear. Am getting more and more tempted to add some mad gt3 type wing on the back of mine....
Nothing remotely heroic or fast but here's some vid from the Nurburgring Grand Prix track, the only track time I've managed so far other than a few sighting laps of the Nordschleife. We've got a proper Nurburgring track day booked for end of April so really looking forward to getting out now that I've got a better idea of how the car works. @doogalman and his good lady providing the soundtrack!
Was loaded last night (-6!) for delivery this morning. 1530 ‘sorry, maybe tomorrow’ which is kinda annoying as I worked from home today and moved my meetings to tomorrow so can’t be out now. Trade men and delivery drivers: can’t trust them and can’t kill them.
Already looking at my first mod: 3 spoke manual wheel with flappy paddle rather than the 4 spoke with buttons. Loads have done it with paddles from all sorts of other makes! And you can buy ready to bolt on
