Hello to all, yesterday we started the project to vinyl my Panigale 959 to Aruba.it WSBK replica. And i saw markings from my wheel in the radiator cover. Is this normal? I attach a phto so you can see.
No, absolutely not. I suggest you look first at how much (or little) pre load and then compression you have on the forks. The only other thought is, if you have changed the front tyre, is it the right profile ? Andy
I am asking the previous owner who is a friend of mine. I know it had the comfort settings and he took her to the racetrack (Valencia). Probably it could be this. I will see how it goes now that i have changed the settings. I discard the tyre profile because it is the same. I will post photos from her when we are finish with the decoration.Right now she looks like this:
Looking at the picture of your bike side on, the front looks low and I wonder if your friend changed the height of the forks in the front yokes. This would steepen the steering angle to get the bike to turn in quicker. Just a possibility. Andy
no! absolutely not normal! there is a natural curve there to avoid it, looks very much as if under brakes the forks have been completely bottomed out/tyre pressures high and it has made contact. Your friend is a very lucky guy to have got away with that. I would set the pre-load back to standard, clean the area up and then go from there.
Doesn’t look to be an abnormal amount of fork above the top clamp. Check the fork settings against the owners manual as others have said.... but this isn’t the first time I have seen this. It doesn’t make it normal, but I’m not surprised to see it.
Deffo doesnt look right mate. Just looked at mine and id say its the forks have been lowered in yoke... should only be a few mm proud of yoke
The photo he put up shows the forks only being around 10mm (including the cap) above the top clamp. They all have about that. Even if all others were flush (they are not), his being 10mm lower shouldn’t create that much of a problem.
Thanks to all, forks are not lowered. When i finish the bike i will test ride it and see how much it bottoms out with standard settings.
Yep my 1299 had exactly the same wear on it. I’ll see if I ever took any pics. No idea what caused it. Took the paint off the bottom of the evotech radiator cover
Could it be road dust and tiny particles of dirt kicked up at speed from the tyre at that area? Almost like it's being sand blasted?
I got the answer from my friend. He thinks it was at Valencia track. At the first sessions he forgot to change the settings and bike was at comfort setting. He then set it up to his weight.
