  3. My company shares are fluctuating between £7.10 - £7.90 per share over the last 12 months. The dividends are OK and paid in additional shares twice a year.

It's the tax break for buying them that makes it worthwhile. I'm allowed up to £1,800 a year (£150 per month), but as a 40% tax payer, the cost to me from my salary is per month is £86. That's just free money (£64 p.m.), before any increase in share price or dividend. :)

  5. Quick question.....
Can a Brit just up sticks here, liquidate and then move to France without any passport or other legal wrangles?

    What are the neighbours like?
Are there any areas that have a high number of british people?

  14. Indeed, a very interesting insight into the retirement conundrum.
One question I often ask myself is how old will I be able to ride safely until? Fortunately I have one good biker friend who is leading the way into his seventies and still doing long Euro tours and a great ridre (yes you Peter!). Great to see these older cyclists in such great shape:

  18. I retired at 51, then I did some part time work 1 or 2 days a week,, florist delivery and aircraft engineer, loved it.... I now think life's so busy, that I haven't the time, for full time work...lol....

I'm now 65 and still enjoy the freedom,, shopping during the week, when its nice an quiet, and holidays when the kids are at school is more peaceful.

I have a reasonable pension. You dont need to earn that much, as your money does go further, not paying Nat Ins, etc, from a wage packet... The last 14 years have absolutely flown by!!!

Enjoy life while your fit enough to do so....
