1200 1200s 2014 - Skyhook Question

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by jumaru, Mar 13, 2018.

  1. Well everything is running smooth as butter, BUT!
Sometimes, for example if i try to go down a small pavement of let's say 10cm, when the front wheel leaves the pavement and just before it hits the road the front forks make a bumping noise as they max out trying to extend, an other time in a bump on the road it did the same, i guess it's something from the skyhook functionality but anyone else noticed anything like it ?

  2. I used to get this issue till I sorted the manually adjustable pre load on the right hand fork leg.

  3. I have exactly the same problem with Ive chosen to ignore it for the time being. Mine is a 1200s on a '10 plate. I spoke with Ducati Mcr when I was last there and was surprised they directed me to some suspension specialist saying they didn't want to do it!
I think it can be sorted out with extra shims, there's a link on here somewhere which I'm sure someone will point out.

  4. What do you mean you sorted it ? a little more details if that fixes it ?

  5. There are some threads on here, somewhere.
Basically the SKYHOOK is sent out with the preload set too light (right fork leg, you need a spanner and a cloth to protect the paint).
They think we are all emaciated teenagers weighing in at 8 stone.... rather than 20 stone men.

  6. i try to find these threads but no luck till now, i guess someone at some point will, and post it here hopefully, cause im not an expert with suspension settings.

  7. What AC said +1. Wind in the top nut in the right leg 3 or 4 times. Do a search on here for pre load, there's a few threads on it. As a very rough guide, about 3.5 turns sorted mine from fully out, and I'm 13 stone. Good luck.

  8. Both versions of skyhook bikes I have had have knocked as described, even with the preload set. Figured it was like the squeaky breaks, bodywork that doesn’t quite fit equally, sensors that just stop, then start, then stop working and the reoccurring Dss lamp  Character

  13. I had the chunking too. When the forks extend down something. 22000mile changed front shock bushes when I did seals(precautionary) and oil. Clunking stopped.

  14. Take a spanner. Reckon you may need a turn off :)

  15. If I understand correctly this is not a preload issue but the suspension is topping out.
Is the bike leaning too far on prop stand? Apparently the Sachs Skyhook leg is built with an internal reservoir, similar to a rear shock. This can leak on the 13 & 14 bikes leading to over extension of the leg caused by the gas pressure. Mine's like this. It should have been picked up by the dealer and replaced free. Mine wasn't. £700 for left leg.

  16. Well i don't know but i guess i have to check it! Untill now after i adjusted the preload i dont have the issue but if it appears again i will go to the dealer.

  17. It sounds like topping out imo given it’s an extension noise not a braking hard noise.

Mine did it when you stand still, and rock the bike with front brake on (if that makes sense) it was a loudish ‘clonk’.

  18. Could that have been steering head bearings bradders ?
