Alarmed

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by coach, Jan 20, 2013.

  1. Tried a search but found nothing.

Anyone got an Alarm fitted, got a Multistrada on its way next month and wanted it fitted with a Datatool alarm. The dealer tells me its not advisable to fit the Datatool as it does not fit in with the Cumbus electrics or something (keeps returning faults)

Anyone running an alarm without problems, which system you running?

    thanks

  2. Think its canbus electrics that they are referring to, sorry not got an alarm on mine, those self arming ones used to drive me mad!

  3. Ducati have a plug-and-play alarm for the Multistrada in their Performance catalog. Why not try that?

  4. Like it. Good descriptor for a Multi.

  5. The dealer is right to some extent. The canbus electrics can make life difficult installing an alarm. The ducati unit is designed to fit in correctly and the connections are already in the loom.
however........have you considered a tracker? Alarms are becoming pretty old hat now and rarely attract any insurance favours. The bike trac units from road angel are approved by ducati uk and work very well. They are a subscription unit but you'll probably save that in insurance......

  6. I've had the Ducati one fitted for two years without any probs. Thats probably jinxed it now though.

  7. Thanks for all the replies. The Ducati alarm is not insurance recognised / approved. I looked at a Tracker but with yearly subscriptions of around £160 my insurance was only going to come down by £10 a year. Not worth it!

  8. I wouldn't touch Datatool with a bargepole. Most unhelpful bastards I have ever met.

  9. How about Meta?

I had a Datatool on my Daytona 600 for 3 years and it failed once leaving me stranded and cost me a fortune to get it recovered and repaired. And it was generally a massive pain to use.

Had a Meta on my GSXR for 6 years. Never missed a beat and much more user friendly, so much so I didn't really notice it.

  10. Had the Ducati one fitted from new. 2010 MY, never had a problem

  11. How about a big lock? Sorry if not a big help but in my experience alarms are nothing but hassle. Plus the cost is never recovered when offset against the insurance reduction..

  12. Tbh, I agree with J biker ....alarms aren't effective nowadays. How many people actually take note and do something when they go off?? The immobaliser system on the Multi is approved, so all you'd add would be a siren. The tracker is undetectable to the scum bags. You get a warning on the mobile that the bike has moved and you can track it to within a few metres on the web portal. either call teh police or go collect with some mates
    The Biketrac subscription is about £90 a year I think....defo not £160.
Comes down to what you want to achieve. An audible warning that the bike has moved, that no-one really takes much notice of, or a solid system that will stand you a very good chance of getting the bike back and catching the scum that knicked it.

  13. Ive got the Ducati one fitted no problems, article in one of the weekend papers gps tracking £175 cover for two years, £25 service cost each year after but it was for car tracking don't know if it would be compatible with a bike.

  14. 100% right.

  15. Yep they are shite, had loads, wouldn't ride with one now. I pay to have them taken off.

  16. Part of the deal when I bought my Sprint 1050 was that they removed the alarm. The dealer said yes straight away without questioning why.

  17. I'm not sure my dealer has anything to do with anything other than Ducati fitments for Trackers which means any other I would have to take the bike elsewhere for it. I couldn't get it fitted before it gets picked up.

  18. Ducati alarm is aftermarket anyway (rebadged) better deals out there.

One thing to consider is tracking as above but also making sure its integrated into the handsfree so u don't need a different bleeper.

  19. Hello. I had a 'bike trac' fitted from new. Insurance approved and thatcham cat 1 device. Think they cost £299.00 plus annual subscription of £90.00
piece of mind really, if it gets nicked (although it's garaged etc) you can just log on the computer in mins to find out where it is, accurate down to a metre ! It sends you a text if its moved repeatedly for 20 seconds with the ignition off !
Plus if the battery gets low you get a text, easy fit and probably the same price as a decent alarm I guess.
Up to you and your requirements I suppose. Works for me !
