Long distance on a SF1098?

  1. Hi all, first post in this part of the forum which is the main reason of why I joined.

i am lurking after a SF1098 which might become reaity this summer. However, I do a fair few miles with my bikes and my current R1 which is well setup, dyno'ed etc will do 150miles before the light in touring mode. I don't really care about the consumption when hooning but when just going from A to B (the hoonage spot ) I like to stop as little as possible.

I also have family in te Ardennes region of France and again, I like to plough on rather than stopping every 90 miles to refuel.

What's your experience in terms of consumption on these?

Also, I currently use Kriega US 40 as a tailpack and/or an R25 on my back. What do you guys use when touring on the SF?

    Cheers,

    JB

  2. If you search YouTube for MCN Ducati streetfighter reviews you will find a number of videos from tester Michael Neeves really raving about the long distance capabilities of both the 848 and 1098. I'm even tempted to add one to my collection.

  3. i went to WDW on my 848

    Kreiga 20 & 2 x 10 and a R30

No problems whatsover (over a 100 before stops on the 848 on a run)

and as much fun as a barrel of frogs

  4. Reading reports seems an ideal bike

  5. Hi,

I rode to Spain last year on mine (I live in France) and we covered 500 klms in a day. I found it very comfortable and it is just a brilliant bike to ride. I fitted a Bagster tank bag (I leave the cover on all the time as it protects the tank and looks quite good) and carried a small rucksac. I think that the Kreiger is probably the way to go though.
One mod I would make is the DP seat, I haven't and found the original slopes too much to the front which was the only uncomfortable bit as the gonads get a bit fed up after a few hundered kms.

Make sure you get the lambda deleted from the software, it changes the bike at low revs, much much smoother.

    cheers
    Greg

  6. Thanks all.

I have checked other sources and there are indeed many reports of SF1098 going over 100 miles on a run before the light switches on.

For luggage, I'll carry on as is if I decide to make the jump.

I've looked at windscreen and they all make a beautiful bike look pig ugly. Any nifty device that provides good deflection without looking too out of place to recommend? Something that's not too hard to remove for when I'm not touring...
failing that: build up neck muscles!

    Cheers.

  7. You don't need one - believe me the aerodynamics are fine for cruising

Unless you want to cruise over a tonne for any length - then I'd probably recommend a BMW

  8. I regularly do 400 mile days on my Diavel or Hypermotard and it's really not a problem, unless, as said by others, you are wanting to cruise at 3 figures.

  9. I too do longish 300/400 mile runs on the M1100s and as stated above unless you want to sit at ton plus for miles you will be fine...as to the luggage Kreiga is your best friend..
