I know this subject has a lot a variables depending on a lot of factors. Im just looking for a better place to start from what my settings are now. Im 5,10 tall and I weigh 190lbs without riding gear. I use the hyper for country roads, & twisty steep hills but fast ones. Please can anyone give me some settings front and rear that will suit, without changing springs, oil in forks etc. Ive been advised over here, (rear settings) to lower the ride height adjuster to min and have 25mm of thread showing above the spring lock nut , 2 clicks in from 0 for rebound and 15 compression damping clicks in from nothing. For the front...Damping half a turn from full in. And back the front compression off.(no exact setting given or for pe load yet )
Hi there ... so it' bucking all over the place is it .... mine was doing the sameones a 2010 hyper 1100 .... mine was stock settings and the chap before me was about 13 / 14 stone I'm 16 & 6.1. I use a bumpy twisty fast country road to work so that was ideal the try settings. As far as I remember I went 4 clicks softer on the front and 2 clicks on the rebound so it was faster riding the bumps. On the rear 2 clicks softer and 2 faster on rebound. Read first on compression and rebound so to get your head around what and why your doing it. I' also didn' feel any difference in 1 click .... tyre pressures play a big part as well .... think in 34 front 36 rear thou a hot day this can go up 2-3 psi when going well so keep a good gauge in your rucksack. And feel how the bikes moving around and dropping into bends. Use the same bit of road prefer 4-6 miles long so u can feel if any improveent u have made. Mines great now no chicken strips at all you do have to grab it by the scruff of the neck to make it do want you want but once sorted there a weapon for sure. If u was near Northampton I'd spend a few hours with u on my favorite road to work and help u out with it.
I was told to put the tyre pressure down to 30 - 32. Haven't checked my tyres yet. na, it wasn't bucking at all. but cornering was way to fast like the tyres were over inflated. the bike always wants to stand up too fast when cornering.
Heres my suspension card for the last time i had mine done with me on the bike for the sag....im a 15stone fatty (with probably another half stone for gear on also)...just tried to upload it but for some reason it wont... Front Compression low speed 1 1/4 turns out. Rebound 3/4 turns out Preload 10 turns in static 18mm Rider sag 55mm Rear Compression Low speed 14 out Rebound 12 clicks out Preload 13mm of Thread showing Static 23mm Rider 39mm Hope that helps. Oh and just to add mines an evo sp so Marzocchi on the front and ohlins on the rear....
Tyre pressure will come down to the tyres, your weight, the way you ride and the weather/temperature. A good rule is 10/20. Check tyre pressure cold, set to what you think about right, 31/33 maybe. Then go for a ride like normal, either nice and gently or balls out, whatever your style, pull over and check the pressure. You want front to go up 10% and rear 10 to 20%. Adjust your cold temperatures till you get the 10/20 increase. Hotter days will need a lower cold pressure. I've got a chart on the garage wall as I'm a sad anal individual.
