Riding home the other night from work on my '05 749 the dash lights started to flicker then went out I then realised the headlight and sidelight had gone out also. I pulled over to find the rear light had gone out. The brake light works on the rear pedal but not on the front lever. On further investigation I found the headlight fuse had blown but as soon as I replace it, it blows again which I think there must be a wire rubbed through somewhere. I have begun to investigate but thought I would ask on here if anyone has ever had the same problem to save hours looking through all the wiring? Any help/comments would be good! Cheers peeps
When this happened on mine the whole loom went up in smoke. The cause was traced to a short in the light loom to the rear light, the one that runs in the metal tube along the exhaust. For fault tracing this loom can be disconnected just by the rear brake cylinder. See if the fuse keeps blowing then.
Cheers chrisw. Have just stripped front of bike, fairing and started to remove headlight pod. Must have disturbed something as lights now work and fuse stays intact, will trace wires at front and check rear also tomorrow! Thanks again.
