  1. Hi guys, on the look out now for my dream 748 so hopefully before Autumn I'll be a proud new owner.
Any tips on what I need to look for...?
    Thanks Jay.

  2. welcome Dave. :)

  3. Hi and welcome.

Check service history for valve checks/adjust, needs doing every 6k mls and isn't cheap.

  4. Welcome and enjoy!

  5. Welcome Jipp to the forum:upyeah:just make sure it's a honest one and as creamy said do the paperwork checks on the servicing records, pictures when you get it please:)

  6. Try to aim for an 'S' with the 5 spoke wheels, as new as you can afford. Personally I would take a newer high mileage one over an older low mileage one mainly because from around late 2000 they had uprated charging systems which were much better and a few other small changes.

748's have always had scare stories about rockers, it takes some time when the bike is started to get the oil around the cylinder heads and there was a particularly bad batch of them which can get really expensive. However I would ask the owner to start it, look at how he does it and whether he just winds the throttle on, or lets it crank and then warm up gently and then make a decision on how it's been looked after from there.

They are great bikes in general, but if you end up looking at 748 SPS/R models, be prepared for that extra level of effort that's required to get them running really well, this will be regular throttle balancing and cam belts every year on the 'R' models. Best stick to a standard or S for all around bang for buck.
