  1. Im looking at purchasing an 1199 but not sure wether to spend the extra coin and get the S model.

Is there much of a difference compare to the standard model other than ohlins and is the ohlins a huge difference from the showa's?

Also looking to hear from experience how the 1199 handles can you horse it into corners effortlessly or is it a very un forgiven bike?

Im riding the 1098 SF at the moment and i find it very un forgiven in the corners.

Miss my hypermotard where i could smash it into corners without a care in the world haha

  2. The main difference is the S carries Ohlins suspension and lighter forged wheels. Your DSFS wheels will fit the Pani with a spacer kit. If you’re using the bike for mainly road use there’ll be very little perceptible difference IMHO.

  3. S is a better buy, I went the base because I wanted to install my own modded suspension. Yeah hyper is a fun thing on the twisties (I enjoyed mine) the 1199 is nothing like that but better than that street fighter thing.

  4. I sense the street fighter isn't your cup of tea @able duc haha

I love the look of it i just have never gelled with it.

So you cant bank the 1199 into corners like the hyper?

My question now is do i get a 939sp hyper.

I want somthing that i can thrash into corners i don't get thrills from straight lines lol

  5. The 1199 can be massively thrashed into corners due to the best brakes in class, it's low weight and engine braking control but you'll need to be a bit of a hero to be backing it into corners. The brakes are more than good enough to have the back end up in the air from any speed and if you leave the engine braking like an old school bike it will go sideways but most people like to use the electronics to reduce the engine braking so that it runs into the corners faster and smoother like a two stroke. The Panigales in general love massive lean angle so you can have lots of fun being a hooligan trying to get your body parts down on track. They are way faster so have a longer wheelbase than the Hyper and dont take such a sharp corner radius so if you want something to hoon at lower speeds you are better going for a Supermoto style that turns sharper.

  6. 1299 range is when the electronics start to become sophisticated enough to assist you with the hero stuff. You're better off getting a smaller bike to learn how to ride like that though.

  7. Ive ridden both and for a road bike id go basic 1199 if you like to enjoy the twisty roads.
Obviously the s has all the bling and wheels but the ohlins is quite stiff for the road. It's why I choose the 959 in the end as it handled quite a bit better imo at the cost of power ofcourse.

  8. For the road - if you really, really want the 1199, then for me, it’s the base model. But tbh, I think the 899 & 959 would be better options.

I test rode the 1199 on roads when it first came out in 2012. In traffic it was horrible. Too much heat, slack throttle. Open road, it made sense. Oh yes!

Since then I’ve only ridden on tracks and had 1199S, R and now another S. I just love the 1199. For me, Ohlins and lightweight wheels make sense on the track but on the road, I feel that the standard stuff is more than good enough. I just wouldn’t be doing the speeds frequently enough that warrant the upgrades. On the track though, for me, it’s a a different story.

What I would add to the 1199 base model is a £25 throttle spacer kit. The throttle slack made it a pig to ride in traffic. And I’d get the ECU flashed to get the fan to come on earlier. And heat wrap the exhaust headers. Or may be ceramic coat them....hmmm....starting to get expensive
