2014 MTS GT. 41,500 km around western Canada and NW US. Only issues fuel sending sensor, side stand switch and bucking and gasping in 1st gear. I'll be 72 in August so over the winter I got to thinking maybe it's time to get into something lighter and less powerful. But then I took la Dolce Ducatia out for a rip and sheeeeeit, I'm totally in love again. The engine is so thrilling, the handling at speed is so solid, the total experience is so exciting, so unlike any other bike I have ridden. I feel that my MTS is the bike that has the looks the other bikes try to look like. And I love the reaction when I tell people I have a Ducati. So maybe next year....
PS can anyone point me to resources re the 1st gear issue. Is it a fueling issue (sure feels like it). Would a remap help? Different sprockets? Seems to be getting worse and makes turning from a dead stop or at low speed a bit of an unneeded adrenaline rush.
I have the 2012 1200s, it's done 23600 miles, 2000 of that was me. I bought it in September 2017. I would get another one, but one from at least 2015. I want cruise control (for average speed camera areas and motorways) and the 25mm lower seat height (cos I'm a short ass at 5'10") The only problems I've had is the fuel gauge sometimes flashes with no information and the red kill switch sticks.
My 2014 was a bit nasty at low speeds. Turned out to be the throttle position sensor was nearly 10% out of tolerance. Worth checking that maybe ?
Hi @Topbox That was my post you quoted way back at the beginning of the thread! I eventually ended up with the S1000XR (despite the squint). I loved my 2012 S Mutley with Ohlins SCU and still miss it to be honest having ridden V-twins for 20 years. Like others have said I think you'll struggle to find a quicker A to B road bike. But eventually I lost a bit of confidence in it after the 3rd fuel sender packed up, dash was gradually lighting up like a Xmas tree with coloured lights and the onset of other electrical gremlins like a dodgy hands free unit that was going to cost £800 to replace so decided to move on after nearly 5 years. I've got classic bikes as well if I want something to work on, and keep a "modern" for something with up to date performance and hopefully I can just jump on and go places. At one point I jokingly said to my dealer "it's lucky I've got a 38 year old Japanese bike I can rely on!" I had a DVT on loan for a few days but it just didn't float my boat in the same way as the rawness of the single spark did. It was definitely far more civilised which I know some people prefer, but dare I say it that it even felt a bit like a Honda in comparison to my 2012. Sorry for rambling on - I guess the answer to your original question is no (unless you can put up with the niggles).
I had an 11 plate Mutley ST. Loved the engine, suspension and looks. Tried a 1st gen DVT and it felt a bit bland. Had the usual known probs with the Mut and moved it on at 28,000 miles of use. Still miss it now and again. May get round to try the new 1260 this summer.
