Just joined the forum and can already see what a great resource this is. Got my beautiful shiny red GT1000 late last year - my first Ducati. 4600 miles on the clock and like new. Sorry for bragging on my first post, but I love this bike. Had an MV Agusta 750S Brutale before this and found it a bit to BRUTAL for my likings so swapped it for a BMW R1200GS. Love the bike and am keeping it but wanted something with a bit more style for special occasions. In fact I am finding the GT a very fast and capable bike - even thinking about doing a bit of light touring with my wife on the back. She finds it pretty good as a pillion ride, nice soft wide seat and rack to hang on to. Compared to the equivalent "retro" Triumphs and Guzzis to me the quality of the GT is in a different league. I am resisting the temptation to modify the bike, but think it could do with a rear hugger. Anybody know where I can get one from? Anyway, glad to be a member of this prestigious group of Ducati lovers and look forward to visiting the site on a regular basis. Rich
Welcome to the Forum.Nice choice of bike-I had one for a couple of years and toured on it. World of QB Carbon do a rear hugger for the GT1000.
Yeah but I'm a bit of a whimp! Not really into sports bikes - took the Brutale on a tour of Scotland. It was magnificent, but I couldn't walk for 3 days afterwards...
It was OK on relatively short rides. Eventually I got an airhawk seat pad which was brilliant, but for longer distances you can't beat the R1200GS. Not to mention luggage carrying ability. From what I have heard about the GT1000 it's not a bad tourer. Looking forward to better weather to give it a try.
Hi and welcome from another GT1000 owner, I was torn between a grey one and a red one, coincidently saw a red one on the way to by mine and wished I'd held out for the red, it looks superb, especially with some nice cans. Look forward to seeing some pics. Mine came with a hugger (see pic in the Sports Classic pics thread) and its really good at keeping the muck off. Just about to add a 14 tooth front sprocket next week and some progressive fork springs going on in Feb/March. Some people say they handle better standard two up, I'll have to take somebody for a spin and try it out.
Welcome to the forum. Personally I reckon the quality of Ducatis finish has been better than all the other makes for decades. Love the choice of bike and would definitely have one given more money and space in the garage!! Where in the world are you? will we see you at Box Hill Surrey?
Used to live near Box Hill but am now up in West Yorkshire. Some great roads up here in Yorkshire and Derbyshire but waiting until all the salt has gone before venturing out again. Nice as they are, those shiny chrome rims don't look as if they would last long if pebble dashed with rock salt.
Seen your pic, Scott1, the bike looks superb. I would have bought the bike in any colour. Took me months to find the one I have and bought it unseen based on some detailed photos from the private seller. Wasn't disappointed. I looked at one other red one, but wasn't happy with the condition.
Hi Rich. Nice to see another GT1000 owner on the site. My GT had a QB hugger fitted when I bought it, works well & looks nice IMHO. Lots of options for modding the Sport Classics. Perhaps we might meet up sometime as I often ride around Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire & Leicestershire?
