I bought a Monster 821 Dark back in September 2017 (not from a Ducati dealer) and had relative hassle free riding till Jan 16th this year. The machine keeps going into limp mode and sounds like its running on 30 year old dirty fuel. I approached Ducati Coventry because the bike was still under warranty they performed the necessary diagnostics and initially noted no fault however after numerous test rides they did find a fault and the process of repair started. Thus far to date the bike has been back and forth over 8 times to the dealer and in total the bike has only been with me for a few days since January and the list of parts changed under warranty substantial as you will see below: kick stand sensor Throttle body X2 O2 sensor ECU Temp sensor Complete wiring harness I took receipt of the bike two days ago and today its engine management light has come on and it has again gone into limp mode for about 2 minutes then cleared. Although I have managed about 150 miles since the problem last occurred the fact that it has occurred means it will happen again, I am not sure what else can be changed but I am now at the end of my tether with no idea what to do next or what I can expect Ducati to do? Where would you people say I go from here because to be honest I am at a loss? Dean
Hi Steve I believe that was tried when both new throttles were fit however I am not 100% certain on that, I did manage to get it on video tonight just to prove that it actually happens. Also when it happens the bike sounds like its running on a single cylinder and sounds more like a Vespa than a Ducati. Almost 4 months after problem it is starting to look like the speed triple would have been the better choice although I am still a Ducati man at heart.
Sorry to hear of your woes. Has the exhaust flappy valve been checked..The valves are known to stick on certain models. Not sure about yours but its where I'd start If you type "exhaust valve" in the search bar on the forum you will see how much of a pain they are
Hi Andy That's not one I have heard before but am surprised Ducati Cov have not mentioned it given all the parts that have been replaced thus far. I will mention it to Ducati tomorrow and see what they say? Appreciate the input thanks Dean
On my Hyperstrada (with the 821 engine) you can hear the flappy valve actuate when the ignition is turned on. Do you hear this?
If it’s an intermittent issue it may well be ok on switching on. Deffo worth listening out for though
Easy enough to get to and check, I would imagine. Although you would have thought the EOBD would return this error if it was the case and JHP have checked it.
