I broadly agree with you and certainly not being at fault won't help with the injuries resulting from accidents. Its a very different point from " remember that in most cases there is no other vehicle involved." which as far as I know is the opposite of the actual situation.
I have a theory Unlike any bike before, the fugly has seen more cars, vans, lorries try to wipe me out than any other bike and I have 3 suspicions 1 some cannot understand the beauty of the strada 1000/1100 and seek to remove it from our roads 2 A lot of members of this very same forum have access to a lot of 4 wheeled vehicles and know where I live 3 the taller and thinner outline of an adventure bike is far less noticeable than say a tourer or sports bike, meaning even less people see it
I haven't analysed any data and have merely reported what I read elsewhere, which may or not be true. I agree that junctions are a major hazard and the chapter on junctions in Roadcraft should be compulsory reading. The hazards, and therefore accident statistics, in an inner city will be very different to where I live and ride. Also I would guess that very few accidents are 100% the fault of one party. The one thing to take away from this is that we can swing the appalling odds in our favour, but only if we make a conscious effort to do so.
Suspect many have a crash, pick it up, take it home, mend it and don’t claim. So an insurer does t see these types of claims. And you can’t trust police statistics, as they see speed as the enemy first, then look for proof it wasn’t. And as our friendly one point out, often, no such thing as an accident....
yeah in £40k plus cars that will have friggin Bluetooth .......so annoying.... also guys who have really dark smoked side glass ......my brother was taken out by one ....
I don't mind horses, and slow down for them. I like cyclists, I cycle. I try and drive reasonably, it's a car. I try and ride in the appropriate road position and a decent speed more often than not, life experience - and the memory of pain when getting it wrong - has helped with all of that but I still make mistakes. Ban; middle and outside lane hoggers; mobile phone users; tailgaters and; people who don't indicate. Help make the roads a better place and we should be able to enjoy it more. .
I believe having a motorcycle licence makes you a better driver. The world is obsessed with blaming speeding for everything.
I've thought of another fucking thing that drives me mad. These replacement street lights are so fucking bright its unreal. Around the m42 birmingham you can read a book in a car now. Without the interior light on. As someone who enjoys a bit of star-gazing we're suppose to be reducing city-glow & light pollution. But oh no, the uk_bigots have got to make seeing stars a thing of the past
I'm sorry there johnv I don't agree, do you honestly think someone telling you not to ride like a twat will actually stop you riding like a twat, if you ride like a twat anyway I genuinly believe in this, I think before you are allowed to sit your car test, you should first pass your bike test. And if speed is the danger, why are the authorities then allowed to speed. Surely whatever event their attending too at speed then they must be perceived as a danger, but they are clearly not. And please don't say "but they've been trained", because that's all training is is practice. So I want to be able to practice like them. p.s. If I need an ambulance, I want them to come as quick as friggin possible.
But if we were all allowed to "practise like them" the sound of everyone driving & riding with a siren would be deafening!
Think I read in Roadcraft when approaching a junction move towards the centre of the road, drivers waiting to pull out find it difficult to judge the speed/ distance of on object coming head on. Moving across their field of vision makes it easier to register.
