I am looking at an early 916 what are the key standard parts I should be checking it has. I am aware of the elephant on the fuel filler cap and the larger ECU but is there any other early features to look out for. I have a vague memory of something written on the wheel(s). Cheers
This is what you might be thing of, Ducati Racing. I'm not quite sure which models they were on, someone will be along to confirm . Steve
Also the bike should have a V in the vin number instead of the B. Early bikes were built in Varese (Cagiva) and later moved to Borgo Panigale in Bologna, thus have a B.
That’s interesting, I have been provided a number which starts with ZDM15B.... but no sign of a V. Unless it’s in the last 3 digits which have not been provided
This might help. They can vary a little but the desirable original parts to look for are. Non adjustable levers, rivets on the lower fairings and screen, rubber brake hoses, elephant logo on the screen and filler cap, brembo racing written around the wheel hub, blue anodised oil cooler hose connectors, matt black mirrors by FAR and the original ducati lettering on the exhaust silencers. Here’s a few pictures.
Thanks for all the information that's very helpful. Assuming the bike has all the original features (which I don't know yet) listed above, in great condition, a 95 reg and 21k miles, what do you think it would be worth.
Off course aluminium subframe. Other rods, this is off course a bit more harder to check. Try to find a real ‘94. Henk!!!
Well, I just sold that one, it was a June 1994 with 6k miles for just short of £10k to a dealer. I never saw it advertised so I guess they moved it on pretty quick or he kept it for himself. I regret it already.
