Hi all I am looking to remove my termignoni exhaust system prior to selling my hypermotard SP but I need to return the map back to standard. Does anyone have an upmap key they would be prepared to lend me? Thanks Shaun
Hi Shaun, I think I’ll have one available when I pick my hyper up at the end of the week, are these things useable as many times as needed?
im not entirely sure that they are. best check first. its a dealer only job the change the map so maybe best to ask them
The keys are coded to the VIN when the upmap is installed. You need the key that was used originally to return it to stock.
Seriously? That's not the understanding of my local Ducati dealer. What a crazy thing to do. I just assumed that it was a usb pen that can upload/download the performance map?
Thinking about it....m that can't be right as they pop up on eBay from time to time. If they were VIN specific then you wouldn't be able to sell them on eBay as it would be useless to anyone other than the person with the correct bike?
I really can't see that. Otherwise how would they have any value on eBay when listed as used? There's a couple of panigale ones on there at present?
i was not to lose it if i ever wanted to return the bike to standard. just wondering if its their way of preventing the sharing and piracy of maps
The exhaust kit is supplied with a “virgin”key. This is used to install the Ducati Performance map to suit the new exhaust setup. That key is then coded to the bike using the VIN. The key will no longer be able to install the DP map on another bike. As mentioned above, it prevents multiple uses of a single key. If the bike is returned to stock, then the proces is reversed, the OEM software is reinstalled, and the UPMAP key can then be used on another bike. The keys aren’t available to purchase separately. Many eBay ones don’t work as they are coded to a VIN. If you do get another key, and it is uncoded, it will only apply the DP map, not reverse your current mapping to original standard mapping. That’s why is imperative that the original key is kept safe and with the bike it’s been used on.
The 1199 Panigale used a plug n play key. It doesn’t need to go to the dealer to be installed, uninstalled. It’s still coded, but much easier to swap to and fro. All keys since, need to be done with dealer diagnostics. If they’ve been coded, they have no value, but that doesn’t stop them being sold on fleabay.
