Rev Counter On 10,000rpm At Tick Over

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Skidmark66, Jun 14, 2018.

  1. Ok decided to start my track bike today. After pouring in some electricity she fired up pretty quick and was ticking over nicely. I then glanced at the rev counter and it was showing 10,000 to 11,000 rpm and bouncing between the two. Any ideas as to what I should be looking for please or is it as simple as a new counter. I was thinking maybe pick up sensor seeing as I have never seen this problem before.
    Motor is 999s in a 748r frame.
    Thanks.

  2. Is the little plug pushed in on the rev counter?

  3. Yep all looks good to me. I have seen this once before but that was when my spragg gave up the ghost and decided to attach itself to everything magnetic including the CCS which I assumed was causing the problem. I think the spragg is fine as bike starts ok without any problems.

  4. My dash just consists of the old 748 rev counter a temp gauge and neutral light.

  5. Apologies, I saw 999 engine and thought you'd used the rev counter too

  6. Most likely an earth issue on the main front to rear loom connector. If you have a 3 foot length of wire bridge between the battery negative post and one of the earth pins in the headstock area to see if the rev counter settles down. Otherwise you have an continuity issue between the ecu and the clocks which could be anywhere on that feed or the rev counter is fecked
