1200 DVT Modes - A Confession

I have a 2010 with mivv and decat and hasn't been remapped so is a bit jerky on constant throttle, loud and pops loudly on overrun. Sport mode is great but the lunge off the throttle is pretty immediate!!!! I use on good days and clear roads, so touring mostly and urban when wet/slippy around town. Tried enduro mode the other day.... very smooth on mine and made urban filtering almost a joy!

 

I always start off from cold in Urban. By the time I am out of town on open roads the engine and tyres should be warmed a bit, so switch to Sport. Then I keep it in Sport most of the time, reserving Urban for towns or rain. Never found any use for Touring.

 

The state of the roads in this country make for a scary skittish ride in sport mode, that stiffness is for tracks.
It must be like a new bike for you, more forgiving and compliant for sure in touring

 

Does that mean soggy?

 

I followed the advice on here yesterday and rode mine around in Touring mode for the first time in 2 years. It has spent it's whole life in the Banzai setting, what a difference, it doesn't surge, it's easy off the throttle, the suspension seems softer and generally just easier to use. But it still pulls when I want it to. Lesson learnt, cheers fellas, I'll save the sport mode for looney days.

Have not used touring mode much , but after reading this will give it another go .

 

Ive ridden the 1260 not PP and own a 2017 PP with a Heal tec quickshifter easy and full Termi. I can tell you that I won't be upgrading to the current model. Not that I could afford to anyway.

I found that the 1260 quick shiter almost lurches as you change through the gears, in other words, there is a kind of delay when you are banging it up through the gears on the 1260. The Heal tech quickshifter can be adjusted to give you the gear changes you want.

As for the modes, as you and I are on PPs with non semi active suspension. I have done Urban with full power, just so I can see the different dash layout, touring is the best for everyday life and yes I have found Sport just a little too snatchy for around town.

I have just replaced my clutch master cylinder and adjusted properly this time so it works a lot smoother, I have also ordered an Oberon clutch slave seeing how easy it is to fix and the amount of central London riding I do.

 

In line 1 of paragraph 2 you refer to a 'quick shiter', you say it makes you lurch. I'm not surprised.

Sounds ideal for dropping the kids of at the pool.

 

I must admit that when I first got my Multi on the way to work in traffic I wondered if I'd made a big mistake, it was very snatchy, it wouldn't pull 4th or 5th at low speed and was a pain, I then tried touring and all was well especially in the wet but gradually over the months I felt like there was something in between me and the tyres so put it back into sport mode and have gradually backed everything off to zero and love it to bits, I actually enjoy being out of breath when I get off it, guess it's why I ride a Ducati not a GS!!

If I get caught in the wet I just stick it in touring and relax.

 

Keep mine in touring occasionally going to sport when feeling angry. Tried urban a couple of times and don’t really see the point of it. Last time I used the enduro option was in France and it threw up an error.

 

If you play around with the map controls on my Monster 1200 you can get full engine response on each mode.

This means you can get a full fat Monster 1200s with the trendy "URBAN" lit up on the screen

Makes enduro like touring?

I use urban round town, touring but with high power and throttle, sport has more pre load and stiffer, enduro is very stiff and lots preload and use as my track mode

 

Just set the engine parameters in sport mode to 150 low, or whatever it's called on the DVT.
