Tank Grips To Suit 1199?

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by Stephen Moir, Jun 20, 2018.

  1. hey folks

Looking to buy some tank grips for the 1199

Previously on my 675 I had the techspec snakeskin in black

But with this being a red bike, I’m in two minds about the black.

I had anyone got pics of any types fitted to there panigale ?

    Thanks

    Steve

  2. I have the Black R&G on my 1299S. 2nd set after the rhs curled at edge due to prob my shit application and over eager use in alps. I prefer the look of these to the rubbery storm grips personally. Plus the half moon bits do need a trim as I dont think R&G's template quite matches the 1299. The grips work well on the pani. But I'd also like to see a set that includes for the bit below the seat for better grip. The frame cover thing.

Note to all: Do not just rip the old ones off. They leave behind the adhesive. Which is fine if you have some Isopropyl and some time. BTW, Amazon do 99.9% Isopropyl and that stuff is awesomely effective.

  5. It is red, yes. I have no pics at hand. I actually installed the new ones last night. I'll take some later and post on here.

Sorry about the second pic but I don’t actually have a proper side on pic of the tank since I put them on.

  9. Yep +1
Tried a few others including I suppose what is described as snakeskin, can’t recall the make. For me personally, I threw them away and went back to Stomp Grips.
Stomp Grips have individual pimples (as do some of the cheaper Chinese ones, not tried them though) that actually provide grip and resistance so hard braking e.g Almeria 180mph to 50mph on the back straight, is manageable. And the same pimples make it easy to lock my leg into the tank when hanging off.
Without pimples, the other grips just sandpapered the inside leg/knees of my leathers (ffs!) and just didn’t work when hanging off, not enough friction.
And I can re-use Stomp Grips. Warm them up, carefully peel off, ensure nothing gets stuck to the back of them, then store on grease proof oven paper until it’s time to stick them back on. Done this 3 times now with 2 different sets of grips, all good.

  10. Thread moved and title changed to suit

  11. I’ve tried the cheaper Chinese one, the glue was rubbish. Came off before I even got to use it.

  12. Thanks for the info guys

Think I have decided to give the techspec xline a try as I’ve been reading they can be removed without damaging paint or having to remove glue etc

  13. FYI-I remove my Stomp Grips without leaving any glue behind....otherwise I can’t re-use them.
Just get a hair dryer on them, warm them up gently, then patiently start rolling up the edges and keep going. Don’t drag or pull the grip out of shape. Pretty easy.

And removing this way doesn’t damage the paint

  14. Have done this, works very well.

  15. I removed them cold. Without thinking. After a 400m ride home from Langres. I appreciate that now. Plus I could've swore I had more Isopropyl than I did.
