YORKSHIRE rider has been handed a ten-month suspended jail term after being nicked at 125mph on the A65.

William Wark, 24, of Pontefract, was driving on the A65 between Clapham and Ingleton, North Yorkshire, when he was seen speeding by police on 21 April.

He was followed by an officer, whose dashcam footage showed him accelerating away and overtaking other vehicles.

Wark admitted dangerous driving at Bradford Crown Court and was jailed for 10 months, suspended for a year.

The Recorder of Bradford Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC had remanded him in custody at a hearing on Wednesday, so he could consider the case further.

Judge Hall decided not to jail Wark but said he had 'driven like a complete lunatic' and his speed on the Clapham bypass, which got to 125mph in a 60mph limit, was 'obscene'.

He had sent him to HMP Armley for 48 hours while he decided if a prison term was disproportionate to what had happened but ended up handing down a suspended term.

  5. Is this really proportionate? For me the question is is was he likely to hurt anyone else or just himself? It is in his best interest to send him to jail for potentially hurting himself?

  6. i dont know....how many other people, pedestrians, cyclists, other cars, other bikes were on the road that day in that location?

  7. That bit of road is as straight as a die.
The reason it is dangerous is that it is the only bit of straight road ,where cars can get past the old codgers that have been pootling along at 40mph .So what do they do??? They put a speed camera van half way along it causing the overtaking cars to slam on their brakes when they see it.
    Safety camera my arse !

  8. The overtaking was shockingly dangerous and he was not a good rider, it was an accident waiting to happen.

  9. I'm not condoning what he did but I've seen a lot worse overtaking at legal speeds on that road. As mentioned above the stretch of road in question is a very long, wide and dead straight like something you'd find on a track with no turnings or junctions and perfect visibility. Definitely the safest place to get any overtaking done and certainly the easiest place to get carried away. I'll be honest I've done big speeds on that straight but at the right time of day when there's no traffic.

  10. Last year I pulled out to overtake a car towing a caravan on this stretch of road. I was along side him when he pulled out to pass another car pulling another caravan in front of him:skull::worried:! We all see plenty of dangerous driving on round abouts, brows of hills and junctions. Yes his speed was dangerous and warrants a ban perhaps, but a spell in Armley? Drink/drug driving(pissed up female driving instructer once hit me ) hit and runs ( happend to me two years ago) violent road rage and vehicle theft....The roads are not for the faint hearted:eek::blush:

  11. There are much bigger problems in the UK than speeding motorcyclists, just a small fine the same as using your mobile telephone:thinkingface:

  15. There you go plead guilty and your sentence will be suspended

  16. Having watched the video, only one of his overtakes looked a bit tight. Crossed a solid line to do it too (although I often do the same when it’s straight and clear). His speed seemed to be done on perfectly clear roads.

Some of the copper’s overtakes were properly dodgy though.

Amazes me how he didn’t notice the car up his arse though.

  17. As we all know, 125mph can be reached and breached in seconds on a modern sportsbike. And we don't require a huge stretch of tarmac either. My mate was having a hoon (Fireblade) heading north past Loch Lomond when a BMW M5 aggressively filled his mirrors and sat right on his arse. He's a very good and quick rider so he opened the taps and obviously dropped the M5 in quick order. But yeah, you guessed it, it was an unmarked cop car and they clocked him at 130mph when he gassed it. He got a 1200 pounds fine (and this was 2005), banned for 15 months and a bike test re sit.

Unfortunately for him, he's a British hard working male. You know, the ones that get shafted hardest. What do these oxygen thieves we see on Stop Police! Action programs get? Fuck all, that's what.... Annoying. This is one of the main reasons I packed in road riding. Why risk it?

  18. I opt for the, slow down and let them pass. Get a good look at the car and driver as it overtakes and make a police or public decision. I then ride accordingly.

Only once had an issue. 120 odd on a motorway and the Volvo came out of nowhere. Pulled alongside, signalled us to slow down and then went on his merry way whilst I shit myself. Empty roads, he obviously saw no real danger.

  19. Lucky lad. He obviously had a priority job. Phew!

  20. My mate didn’t notice him. Kept accelerating to 140 plus until he realised and got the same treatment :joy:
