The GT Air has been out for a while, for those who have one, how have you found it? With the noise and buffering issues on the Multi, how has the Shoei dealt with them?
Works well with the Multi for me. Make sure the visor seals at the top of the helmet as some have an issue with water seeping through the gap at this point.
GT air + multi = no buffeting , wind noise not intrusive. I’m using puig touring screen with top deflector thing
Been Arai through and through for a squillion years, switched to the GT Air a couple of years back, wish I had switched to Shoei a squillion years back, best lid I have ever owned for comfort, quality and quietness. Arai was like being in a Tornado by comparison and the build quality of the Shoei is far better imo
I would definitely recommend the GT Air. Comfortable and not too noisy, though I do wear earplugs when I ride. My favourite feature is the flip down internal visor which is ideal when riding through shady areas back into full sun.
Had mine about 4 years now. Initially I loved it, slowly went off it and now after trying lots of other helmets on as I shop for a replacement, I love it all over again. I seem to suffer from horrible buffeting on any bike with a windscreen, I reckon that tends to have a lot more to do with your height, than the helmet... With a PP style tiny screen fitted to a 1200s it was immediately 10x better than the standard screen at any height. My Dad's new 939 Supersport is just has bad, it was horrible for anything longer than 20 minutes. But my GT Air has been pretty quiet on the majority of bikes I've ridden. You can tell it's tuned for an upright position because it gets a lot noisier if I tuck down. I normally go without earplugs for shorter rides and it's perfectly comfortable. I'd say the main upside of the helmet is comfort. I've been taking it for granted, tried some other lids and there was often something, even small that was annoying. The Shoei is just kinda perfect all over. We all have different shaped heads but I cannot find anything that fits me as well and I've really tried. The quality of the helmet is amazing. The matt/fluo paint on mine has held up way better than I expected and the inner liner/fastenings have never showed any signs of wear, being removed and replaced dozens of times. My only gripes are the visor seal and fogging. I've found the GT Air fogs more than my previous helmets, mostly down near the visor opening tab thing. My clear visor has a pinlock in which mostly fixes the issue but my tinted visor will fog even on warm days at a stop. I reckon a new visor might help as my tinted one has never seemed to seal as well as the clear. I'm going to get an NXR next, despite wanting to try something other than Shoei. I rarely use the drop down visor, so may as well go lighter. Nothing comes close to the fit and even the insanely expensive Arai's I tried on didn't feel quite as well put together inside but they didn't fit me anyway. Too round. Also worth mentioning, Shoei will swap out the liner or cheekpads for ones that fit you best, totally free. Which is great. I have a large but with the cheek pads from a small, for a tighter fit, perfect.
I had no end of trouble with mine with visor misalignment and misting. Gave up in the end. I'm told there was a problem with some batches of L size GTs back when I bought mine. Whether that's true and I got a bad one I don't know. If so I'd imagine any problems are fixed now, I bought mine five years ago. Unless you particularly want an internal sun visor its better to buy a helmet without. They do tend to compromise the design of the lid. The GT Air is quiet. Not that light though or that well vented. I've found noise varies a lot depending on the bike you're riding. The X-Lite I bought to replace the Shoei with is almost as quiet on naked bikes but on my Adventure the visor makes a rushing noise. Doesn't whistle, just makes a steady roar as the air flow over it. It's almost quieter with it up bizarrely. If only you could test ride lids on your own bike before you buy.
Well i bought the Shoei and also fitted the Puig Touring screen and while theres still some noise and buffeting, its nothing that makes me want to change the setup. A perfect combo for me!
Find mine very comfy, only gripe is the sun visor slider on the side of the helmet has failed twice now.
