i have a 1078 multistrada. Every time the fuel gets to around a third of a tank the engine management warning light flickers. Once the tank is nearly empty it is on continuously. Any suggestion on what is causing this and how to fix it would be much appreciated. I have checked the wiring for damage and cleaned all the connectors.
are you able to get access to a Reader that can check the codes. That way you would know what the alarm code is then fix it.
Not sure what a 1078 Multistrada is. I have a similar problem with my 1000S DS Multistrada, the engine management light comes on and goes off in conjunction with the low fuel level warning light activation. I can read the fault code this generates by pressing the A and B buttons in a specific way ( can't remember the sequence right now) I seem to recall the fault code generated is something like 7:2 which equates to fuel sensor shorted to earth. I think the problem is caused by the fuel sender. When I get round to it I intend to replace the sender.
My bike is the 1100DS, it is 1078cc. I will check out the earthing. I did get somebody to run the diagnostics and they gave me a load of errors that made no sense. Their suggestion was cleaning all the connectors. Thanks
The reader gave random answers. Think it is the fuel level unit, they seem to be a popular item for causing issues. Thanks
Ron, from what I have gleaned reading up on this, it's a very common problem. Do try googling Multistrada 1000ds fuel sender issues, plenty of reading there! Look in your user manual how to read the fault codes via the A&B button pressing, and you will probably find you have the same fault code as me.
Nothing as complex as that Old rider. Almost definitely it's due to the cheapskate sender. I find it galling that Ducati fits such appalling shite into what is a premium product year after year, and still doing it to this day. I blame the people who buy the new bikes btw, they are just encouraging such practices. If they stopped buying them, maybe Claudio Domenicali might look at his share portfollio's plumetting value and do something about it, instead of preening himself whilst admiring his new expensive sunglasses whilst drinking his tenth cup of coffee.
Are these the thermistor type @CRYSTALJOHN ? If so could not agree more I've got the same shit on the Guzzis too and they just fail, either on or off. I just use my odometer now and never trust any of them

I'm unsure atm Old Jock as I haven't removed mine yet. Like you, I use the odometer, know exactly where you are then, assuming resetting at every fill up is carried out! Hi. Read up and it is most likely to be the sender failing. There are electrolytic capacitors that fail over time. As the electronics are set in resin you cannot repair them. This is partially age related so a 2nd hand one may be a temporary fix. Have not changed the sensor yet. Looking for the most recent on eBay. As it is not essential. Just back from 1500 mile trip to Scotland and bike did not miss a beat. My Fuel gauge now drops from half full to empty but the warning light seldom comes on. I guess that capacitor has failed.
