1260 Rear Wheel Quality Issue

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by AnyOldIron, Aug 8, 2018.

  1. Evening all,
Whilst cleaning the chain on my 1260 MS this evening I noticed that the upper plastic guard on the swingarm has a ludicrously limited clearance between wheel rim and guard. On inspection I noticed that the wheel rim is noticeably scored from road dirt lodging between plastic guard and wheel rim.

I am not too pleased considering how expensive the motorcycle was.

I have emailed pictures to the dealer and asked for a response and told them I consider this to be a warranty claim.

Anybody else experienced this and if so, what was the outcome?

  3. Plenty of clearance

  4. Can only assume mine wasn’t properly built or checked. I will be pursuing a warranty claim for sure.

  5. No pictures with me, but mine has good clearance, at least 6-8mm.

Yours looks like almost nothing...i'd certainly be pursuing it!

  6. Id question whether that plastic guard is fitted correctly in the top photo.

  7. Let me know if you need more photos.

  8. I do not think it is or it is out of specification I do wonder if it had been removed when the bike had its first service and was not refitted correctly. Not having adjusted the chain myself yet, does that plastic piece need to be removed for chain adjustment? I did have the Ducati branded Scottoiler fitted at first service too.

  9. It sounds like the rear hub has been adjusted the wrong way (if it's possible to do that on the 1260).
Or it could be the Scott oiler tube has made the cover sit up a bit.

Certainly one to watch for people that might have to adjust their chains a long way before replacing.

  10. I’ll check mine tomorrow, it looks far too close and I’m sure I’ve got good clearance, i’ll Throw some photos up

  11. first pic looks like not fitted properly

  12. Doesn't look fitted right. Heres mine 707690E9-6B6A-4875-A44B-26FDC871695B_zps7xnx3w2o.JPEG 3573EF8A-FC61-4B4A-89DF-3875CB8A123A_zpsvhhho4ah.JPEG

  13. Ive just had the same problem on my 1200 DVT. Following a service at the dealer the rear spash guard was not re-installed correctly. The issue is that the splash guard lower bolt mount underneath had not been seated properly and the bolt not inserted. A visual inspection by the mechanic would have highlighted the issue as the splash guard was rubbing against the wheel rim. A week later Im back at the dealer with a damaged splash guard similar to your photo and a shiny steel rear wheel rim. Fair play to the dealer, no fuss, rear wheel respray and splash guard correctly re-mounted. Lesson learnt on my part to check this before leaving the dealer.

  14. Spoke to the dealer this morning and sent them the photos. They have told me it will be sorted out and that a check on other bikes in the showroom shows 4 to 5mm clearance. Something worth keeping an eye on, particularly after a service.

  15. On closer inspection of your photos, that is not rubbing against the splash guard, its the swing arm cover? Different problem to what Ive posted.

  16. It's the upper swing arm cover.

  17. Call Ducati Card Assistance service, tow your MTS in the dealer that you bought your bike from, they will give you new rear wheel, and do all the adjustment to make it right for you.

  18. Well, seven weeks after buying the bike, the mythical card has yet to appear. I think that calling the breakdown service might be somewhat overreacting! I have already spoken to the dealer and will ride the bike there on Saturday morning for them to take a look. They have already told me they will sort it out. Took another close up picture this evening and you can see the guard is incorrectly installed. I am certain that it was not that close when I bought the bike and the position changed after the first service.
