OK.....got them......the slightly oversize seals I used on my Marzocchis have the following reference umbers on them: TCL 40 / 52.2 / 10 / 10.5 If I recall correctly, the 10.5 may have been the overall depth including the slight projection of the seal lip, whereas the 10 is the depth of the seal at the O/D. Whatever, they made sure the tiny pits (smoothed out, etc) left don't leak. AL

I have a feeling the oversize dimension is the 52.2.......just enought to fit tighter in the shroud and possibly enough to squeeze the seal lip a tiny bit tighter onto the stanchion. AL
Set of seals ordered. Thanks again Al.. On looking a little closer to the left leg and the slight pitting, I can see a slight discolouration in one area. It looks like wear in the chrome and the steel (or copper) showing through.. I didn't really want to see this, although I have an option seeing that the clamp has been separated from the slider. What if I position the worn area to the inside of the leg so that the exerted forces will be applied on a 'fresh' area of chrome? Whilst I appreciate that this probably isn't good engineering practice, I need to get your opinions on this.. Should I be looking at replacing the Stanchion/Slider or leave as is (but turn the slider to a fresh area as above)?? I have seen new sliders complete with clamp on a certain german website with 'Stein' in the title at 160euro, but it would be good to see whether I am being over cautious with this... Is this a common complaint of the forks on these bikes, or am I being over particular?? :frown:
The carbed SS left fork seal is the one that normally goes..........probably something to do with the way it sits on the sidestand. If you have managed to get the seals I mentioned and assuming you have polished the area well; you may be lucky and get away with a wear patch for a while, but don't forget that chrome is a lot harder than steel.......but yes, try turning it 90 degrees at least. I guess if you get stuck you could borrow mine for a while. AL
Thanks for the offer Al. The worn area is well polished with no roughness and I personally would not be worried about leaking there for the mean time. I might swop it over to the rhs and turn as has been suggested. It should hopefully allow me some time for a bit of fun with the bike. I can search out another decent set to swop the bad one out at some stage..
