Hi all. The Monster 696 10 year rebuild has begun. It’ll be slow as I’m waiting for parts and tools. Removing the tank now but I’ve never done it before, so I remove these? And if so should I put clamps on the lines first? I’m very new to this, looking forward to learning
Best to drain the tank first, easier to handle, photo and label the hoses, put tight fitting drill bits/bolts in hoses to keep clean,it's safe to remove hoses, you have one breather, one feed, and one return hose, there should be no leaks if alls correct!
No! don't remove those, the pump end (towards rear of bike) of those lines are under a black plastic cover, remove that and the fuel lines have Q/R connectors to disconnect from the tank. Do drain as much fuel as you can before disconnecting. A block of wood under the rear of the tank makes life easier when disconnecting the lines from the tank.
never worked on this model, but don't they have quick release connectors at the tank end? If you look at the connectors there is a "serrated" looking part to the circular release ring, you can press this together with same 180 deg opposite with thumb and index finger and then gently wriggle and hopefully remove. I always put an old towel underneath connectors first as there will be some fuel loss as they come away. Sorry @Rman, only just fully read your post..
Ahh, did wonder. Thanks all. Sadly I have half a tank full, may take me a while to drain with my syringe! Still, the mower will get Shell Advance for a while
