Do you guys normally do all the rockers, regardless what's fubar Is it labor intensive to do, removal and install ? Trying to estimate a cost
I did all the rockers on my 748; at the time it cost me $75 USD per rocker with Guy Martin in Canada; roughly 1350 or so with shipping. I also had to remove the heads since getting that stupid closer spring back on it stupid hard even with all the room in the world. At the time I’d say five or six rockers needed resurfacing but I figured since I was in there I’d just do all and not worry about them again.
Carlo, gather the flakes and get a magnet, if they are magnetic it will be obvious and will give info that will eliminate some of the possible issues. However they look more like alloy swarf to me which could indicate the crankshaft plugs are working loose
Used a magnet on one of the bigger flakes , nothing Battery acid , nothing IS the Crankshaft plug in an MY01 Aluminium? I reckon your right Denzil!
Carlo, I assume you already looked at this https://www.ducati.ms/forums/56-superbikes/389266-ducati-748-flaking-rocker-repair.html The part number for the gallery plug changed sometime after the early part of 2000 so could be the earlier or later style one in early build MY01 bikes. When it is worn out your oil pressure dissappears
Not looking good. Unfortunately the only way to get a view of it is to remove a cylinder (preferably the vertical) and have a good look down there, you should be able to see if this is the problem. A few small steel bits from gears etc. are not uncommon in the oil. Chrome, unfortunately is no rarity either but if it's definitely aluminium then there's not much else it could have come from and the only way to repair it is engine apart.
Thanks for all the Help , great forum She is going under the knife this week , at least the belts are due I am just a bit anxious about my 1997 M900 now lol
