Standard Or S

Discussion in 'Supersport (2016 onwards)' started by iang27, Oct 3, 2018.

  1. looks like I have a buyer for my 675R so looking at used Supersports.

The standard model is more in my price range but is it worth trying to scrounge the extra for the S model ?

Is it just the front and rear Ohlins, Seat cowl and Quickshifter that is different or anything else ?

Anything to look out for, recalls etc

    Cheers

  2. Mate of mine has the S. He loves it.

  3. I bought the standard and got a seat cowl and DQS fitted at that time. Didn’t need the Ohlins. Didn’t want it in white. Saved some money and I’m more than happy with mine!

  4. Standard in red here, no use for a seat cowl or Ohlins but have the quick shifter. Love the bike and completes about 10k miles now.

  5. There is around £1k difference between the standard bikes and the S that I have seen.

How much is the Seat cowl and Quickshifter and does it need enabling ?

Is the headlight different, some pictures look the same but others the running lights look different.

One website said the S had a slipper clutch but the standard didn’t.

  6. I bought mine a year ago and it saved me a fair whack by not getting the Ohlins, the prices now may mean less of a saving.

Headlights the same, clutches the same.

  7. As above headlights and clutches are the same.
I paid £150 for the DQS, fitted it myself and then paid about £20 for it to be enabled.

  8. The S model on a 17 plate I saw with 1000 miles is around £9250

Seen a few 17 plate standards with between 1000-2000 miles for £8000.
    Also a 68 plate standard for £9000

Did they change anything for 2018.

I ‘thought’ the S had led running lights while the standard didn’t.

I don’t really need the Ohlins but just wondered if it was a better buy although It is over budget.

  9. I think if you are patient and are prepared to wait another couple of months I`ll be surprised if you cant pick one up in the low 7s, maybe be even below £7k if you are lucky.

  11. I test rode both. You should do the same.

Personally I thought the difference was night and day.

The s went round corners, the standard one didn’t. Your call.

Sorry if that upsets any standard owners.

  12. Won't upset me, I also tried both but there was very little difference in my rides on the road. Perhaps the two bikes that you rode were set up differently.
After over 10k miles and my own adjustments mine goes around corners like on rails and can get to the edge of the superb Diablo Rosso 3 tyres.

  13. There are no bikes to try around here but I am not Rossi etc so I am sure the standard suspension is still better than me.
From what I have read if you intend doing track days then the Ohlins are better but for normal road use there is not much in it.

  14. It’s a fair reply and I’d agree that if a well setup base performs perfectly well then why pay more?
The base I got on obviously wasn’t set up at all. After 5 mins I almost took it straight back but thought I’d persevere and see if I got used to it or it got any better. I didn’t, it wobbled round the bends. It genuinely was awful.

I did the same route on the ‘S’ straight afterward and it was great round the bends. Confidence inspiring.

I guess the learning is, try both and a small part of the money you save on base should be spent on setting up the suspension but then again you should have the suspension set up on an ‘S’ model too. Not much money and well worth it.

In the end you can ask as many existing buyers as you want and they’ll all perfectly reasonably justify their decision. That’s why they took the decision.

It’s down to what YOU want. At this time of year why rush it?

  15. Get yourself down to Tyneside or up to Jockland and test ride them, then you’ll decide.

  16. M&S haven’t got one or I couldn’t see one.

  17. Nearest test ride will probably be in Ducati Glasgow @iang27 !
Nothing at Newcastle or Carlisle. (Ask me how i know)

  18. You had a good run out have you ?

  19. It's all bling to me. but I can't help it doc:heart_eyes: I'm like a magpie:imp:
    You will love either.:upyeah:
