Trying to get Insurance these days, as I'm sure a lot of you have found, is difficult to put it mildly. I've had qoutes from Carol Nash, Bennetts & Ducati and they all, initially, wanted a lot of money. CN stared at £372. After spending over 30 minutes on the phone it was finally brought down to £279. Which includes breakdown UK & EU. Ducati was £345.78. Bennetts came out the cheapest at £141.27. but I must add to this, UK breakdown at £64.99 & EU £99. Breakdown cover is with the AA & RAC. Nowadays every bike policy has a compulsory excess of £250. I have no doubt it could be cheaper if I agree to another £250 voluntary, but that is just stupid. There must be another way of getting a better quote. I was thinking of using the basic Bennetts quote and trying to get a cheaper breakdown cover from someone else. So what does the Forum think? When it comes to cover, no two people are the same, so cost will be different. eg. age, experience, ncd, post-code, where kept etc. If a Forum member can offer a suggestion on which breakdown company to choose, cheaper than the ones mentioned, that will certainly help. Any info or advice graciously accepted. Dave Hughes Liverpool
That sounds quite good £279.00 Try Hastings direct, my old Aprilia fully comp with break-down cover £186.00. with 250.00 excess. break-cover was £35.00 UK only. I dont think you will get it any cheaper, only by increasing you excess.
I recently ran up a quote with CN and they came back with a competitive quote and £125 excess?? Curious.
Thanks Skidoff & Greyman for you input. I will certainly try Hastings Direct, but as I said in my spiel, no two folk are alike when it comes to Insurance. As for £125 excess "curious " indeed. All the policies I mentioned, plus the lot on comparison sites, all had a minimum of £250.00. The only policies that I know off where the excess is zero, or a wee bit more, are on Classic ones. But can I ask the question, "Has anyone heard, used or bought breakdown cover from QDOS? I put my details on to their site and it came up with £58.50 for UK & EU cover. This is an astonishing price and is £41.00 cheaper than my other cheap quote from Bennetts. Dave Hughes Liverpool
I've just noticed "Liverpool", probably an automatic loading mate. Not necessarily a nationwide thing ........ suck it up I guess...
I have today got my '05 ST3. Could not be more pleased. Even having frozen fingers couldn't take the smile of my face. As for Insurance; I actually went to Carol Nash for £249.00. This is for comprehnsive cover plus top of the range UK & EU breakdown. It wasn't easy. From a starting position of £379 and quite a few phone calls to them, playing Bennetts quote of £144. [without breakdown] against theirs, I settled for the last figure. I think I did quite well in the end. So a big thanks to the Forum and Scouse John's pm's. Much obliged Dave Hughes Liverpool.
