Ridden back 15 miles on rear cylinder, looks like after all my checks front box is bad (will spark intermittently when ignition is first turned on). I have two more from an early 90s 900 they have the blue potting. The one that's bad is black potting. Are the blue ones compatible with a 95 on carb motor. Reason I ask, I thought I'd read somewhere that they wouldn't work with the coils on this 95/6 on motor. Didn't want to bugger them up. Thanks for any info

the benchmark/std igniter used across the board is the BB1105 which comes in black. The other derivatives BB1132, BB1135 are also in black as far as I know. I think as long as you use them in pairs they are unlikely to cause damage as the difference in timing is quite small from memory.
Chris, the bad one with black potting as you say is BB1105. The blue ones are also BB1105. As I say I'm sure I'd read somewhere that they wouldn't work with my coils. Just didn't want to make an expensive mistake. Ill try the blue pair together. Also I've added a digital volt gauge wired direct to the battery because of rotor problems a couple of years ago. Just recently only with lights on it had been reading up to 16v, around 15v with everything off. Wondered if that may have spiked the igniter.
Solved. The front coil was the fault. Even though the primary and secondary circuits show the same resistance as the one I replaced it with, wouldn't spark.
