1199 Fitting Mirrors Back On

  1. What and absolute joke that was trying to get the bloody mirrors/indicators fitted, took me f---king ages, I will have to come up with a better way of doing it as I'm planning a few trackdays next year and was planning swopping fairings around as needed.

I ended up taking the nose cone off and messed around for hours, think I'm going to cut the connector off and solder the wires on at the mirror end everytime it comes off.

  2. crappy design.. It wouldnt be so bad if they used a waterproof connector external from the mirror assembly - buy where would you put it.. as the wires run down the fairing subframe.. maybe best solution is to NOT put them in the mirrors ;-)

  3. I now just tape the connector up under the fairing, such a effing faff to do it properly.

  4. After a few times it gets a lot easier = but yes a total pita.

  5. the 1299 is even worse as you can't collapse the mirrors.. its the only part of the bike design ( other that the QS) that i don't rate very well.

  6. Just leave the block connector out. Don't bother putting it back into the mirror. Makes it really easy to remove in future. I tape it in to the back of the fairing beside the dash

  7. Its connecting the blocks together inside the mirror mount, the rubber boot is always fiddly .
I suppose you could cut teh wire and add another waterproof connector inside the fairing near the mirror mounts ?

  8. You can pull the whole connector out of the mirror mount, there's a good bit of slack in the wires. I just tape the block connector on to the fairing then (connected up) so don't need to do anything with the mirrors besides taking the 2 bolts out. Takes about 5 minutes to remove and re-install.

  9. Do you mind posting a picture? I'm trying to understand how you've done this without trapping the wires when fitting the mirror back on, a picture always makes it easier. I'm not too worried about the cosmetics, just trying to find a more practical solution for trackdays I have planned.

  10. I'll take a pic when I put them back on in a few days - have the whole front fairing off at the moment!
