2013 WSBK Calendar Shake Up: Istanbul To Replace Silverstone, TBA Round Scrapped? | MotoMatters.com | Kropotkin Thinks
Brands surely much better place than Silverstone in any case. Silverstone is somewhat flat and tedious.
Having just read the article, how man eggs can the goose lay before Dorna wake up, get less greedy and think of the sport as much as profit? No sport, no profit.
Bradders Dorna fucked up motogp and will do the same with wsb. Before long we will have 10 rounds of wsb and motogp on spanish soil.
Last time i went to WSBK it was still at Donington... Yes it's been awhile but i never had any interest in going to the best take your binoculars circuit that is Silverstone
Loved this part of the artical Crowd numbers at Silverstone for World Superbikes were always low, in part because the flat nature of the circuit made viewing difficult, and in part due to relatively high ticket prices, which meant that ticket sales did not generate sufficient revenue to cover the circuit's costs. They should look at Brands (MSV) and BSB as the tick price is higher and then they want another £10-20 to rent a seat in one of the stands..... Silverstone WSBK with the roving stand pass & big screens was the best value of any British motorsport event. Last years racing was great aswell....
Brands better than silverstone for spectating, be a shame if there is no UK round especially as so many on the grid are Brits. Kinda takes the option away for most UK fans too, not everyone has the time or cash to go abroad and watch a round.
Price... is the problem IMO. I used to go to both Superbike and MotoGP races but stopped some years ago when the pricing got silly. Never liked Silverstone much though, both Donington and Brands are much better from a spectator point of view.
the last WSBK race i visited was @ valencia to see Cal Crutchlows final year in the sport.... two words..fekkin boring...valencia is a bit like seeing a band play at the NEC...absolutely zero atmosphere, and because the track is 'designed' youre a mile away from the action at all times..yes, you can see the entire circuit, but its a bit like watching a film set or a scalectrix track.. Same with silverstone..boring...in fact, i personally get into it more watching it at home...im probably boring, but a race meeting tends to be hassle and aggro..lots of walking and waiting, hanging around and freezing (in the UK at least)..i always feel ripped off going to races, and when ive had pit passes etc theres a real elitist and snotty poseur attitude in the air...an ex bint of mine used to be a brolley dolly for suzuki so we blagged lots of passes but i never enjoyed myself....full of knob heads trying to out knob head each other.. Weve got a shortage of truly world class bike circuits in the UK (ie England), particularly compared with the bike mad italians and spanish..
Yes, I was going to say - head for Monza. Real atmosphere and (for me) not too hard to get to. Unfortunately, to quote Peter Sellers, it's "in the heart of the swamp country.... harder still to get out of". Last time we were there we had to get a local to guide us out of Monza, or I could still be there, going round and round.
