I've not collected mine form the dealer yet so I had a call yesterday saying they will get it done before I have it after Christmas. Does it include an oil change?
Haha! It's a second hand bike but not due the service until June next year, but would be nice to get it on fresh oil!
As explained to me by the workshop manager, the technical note detailing what needs doing to exchange the oil cooler, allows for 0.5 of a litre of oil so no, you won’t get an oil change unless you ask your dealer for it and probably pay the extra cost. 15w50 fully synthetic oil isn’t cheap. Andy
I had the same letter before Christmas too, I’ve not called and booked it in yet, was thinking of getting them done when I get the bike serviced in March/April as I’m not going to be riding it much, or at all before then. Do you guys think this will be ok with Ducati in regards to warranty etc or do I needn’t to take it to get done specially and ASAP?.
The recall states that if it shows any signs of leaking DO NOT ride it. If it does not show signs of leaking you CAN ride it to the dealer but at low RPM only. If you take it to your dealer, also be aware that under the terms of the warranty (as others in the US have discovered) Ducati will not release your bike until the oil cooler has been replaced, so bear that in mind if they do not envisage having a replacement in stock by the time you book it in. Arguably you could ride it away but should it fail and you have an accident attributable to the subsequent oil leak, you are on your own as far as any claim for damages or injuries are concerned and your warranty will likely be invalidated.
I think mine is ok to be honest, it certainly doesn’t look like it’s dropped any oil, although to be fair I’ve not gone in the garage to check on it for quite a while!.
The recall affects all bikes within the VIN number range specified, whether yours is leaking or not as the design has been modified and strengthened to rule out any potential failures. It's a free service so no reason not to.
As Topolino says plus you also need the recall that re-torques your hydraulic cam chain adjuster fixing bolts. Andy
Late to this thread so just going back to the V4 that "burst into flames" in Canada that started this off - I am by nature curious as the guy had taken image down. Well, here it is I believe:
Mate, old, old news and nothing sinister, just dealer incompetence. Images probably taken down as part of the resolution. The guy got a new bike and dealers were instructed not to fit customer supplied aftermarket components. It did also add pressure (no pun intended) to the fuel cap breather recall. Andy
I understand that, I went back to the initial post and it is the title of the thread. The only reason I posted the photo was for those who may not have seen it before and was taken down.
Sorry, I intend to do the recalls, it’s more just that I don’t want to do them urgently as the bike isn’t going to get ridden for another couple of months, I’m going to time them with when I get it serviced in say March, rather than have 2 trips to my supplying dealer as it’s not just up the road for me.
