Hi gang My 2010 Hypermotard was delivered today all the way from Dorset Im really happy with it ,all as described ,paperwork and keys all present full 12 months mot but I noticed the rear tyre is plugged ,has loads of tread and I have plugged tyres before myself Am I being picky to think this is poor on a 6k 2nd hand bike or would you be ok with it ?
What is the tyre rating ? If it’s Z then the repair is illegal. Other than that, the plug looks like it is in the repairable zone. Andy
Looks a sound repair to me, always carry a stop-n-go kit & compressor. It's a bit naughty not to have been told as that central zone is where most shops refuse to fix. Unless you sign a waiver'
my local tyre fitters tell me that some manufacturers state their tyres cannot be plugged, others, Michelin for one, define a central zone outside of which they are not permitted to plug it, could be worth checking
Yea I,m not really concerned about riding on the tyre just struck me as a little off ,now just need the weather to buck up
Done 3000miles on my old commuter FZ6s with pluged tyre, never had an issue. Tyre was one week old when punctured...did not want to bin. What is the worse it can happen, apart from possibly going flat?
Unfortunate but wouldn't bother me too much. Not like a Hyper is going to be cranked over at 150mph (unless you are @bradders )
How old is the tyre? Check the date code on the sidewall. If it is more than five years old, fit a new one anyway. A 2010 bike with 6K miles might even be on the original 2010 tyres - in which case replace it asap, regardless of the plug.
i had a new bike also from a dealer with a plug in it but this was a brand new bike that had 13 mls on the clock, plug was in the same area but ono the left side and in the groove of the tyre as yours is, tyre wore down quicker than the plug and the plug split and nearly killed me, your choice but for the money to replace it for me its not worth the worry .
I wouldn’t worry and anyway don’t think it’s reasonable to expect (want) a dealer to replace a tyre because of it. I’ve ridden thousands of miles on plugged tyres on nearly all my bikes and they’ve all been ok.
A mate got a puncture at a track day at Mondello Park. We 'fixed' it with my emergency repair kit that I had with me - as we had ridden over from England and did a fair few miles around Ireland. Anyway, did a track day then rode back to England and never bothered do anything about it until the tyre needed replacements for wear. Lucky - who knows?
I used a plugged tyre for about 1000 miles till tyre replaced personally wouldn't accept a plugged tyre on a bike just purchased
